  1. The high hopes the club had for Weideman as a key forward have faded since he had his supposed break out finals series in 2018. He did however, surprise with good effect late in the season at Casey when he took over the ruck role improving with every game despite being on the short side for the position. He was traded to the Bomber during Trade Week for Pick 37 in the Draft. 2. The Western Australian rookie showed signs of gradual improvement through the year at Casey and his progression after a full preseason at the club will be watched with interest. "The rookie-listed defender is yet to play a senior game, but was a regular in the Casey Demons line-up and played in the VFL premiership win. Signed a new contract in August to retain a spot on the rookie list for next season." - Herald Sun Date of Birth: 8 July 2003 Height: 185cm Weight: 70kg Games CDFC 2022: 19 Goals CDFC 2022: 0
  3. McDonald’s foot injury in mid season was the most telling blow struck against the club in its campaign to defend the 2021 premiership flag. The key forward hasn’t played in a losing team since Round 19 of that season and was close to a return when the club lost its semi final against the Lions. The Demons sorely missed the strength and energy up forward that McDonald provides in the latter part of 2022. "The key forward didn’t play a senior game following round 10 after surgery for a Lisfranc injury. McDonald’s gallant bid to return for the Demons’ finals campaign with a metal plate still in his foot ultimately fell short. A fit McDonald, with his big tank and strong marking, will make a welcome return to the Demons’ forward line next year." - Herald Sun Date of Birth: 18 September 1992 Height: 195cm Weight: 101kg Games MFC 2022: 9 Career Total: 202 Goals MFC 2022: 15 Career Total: 157 Games CDFC 2022: 3 Goals CDFC 2022: 7 Brownlow Medal: 2 votes

  9. I hear they are a household name in New Zealand.
  10. An Essendon supporters facebook group discussion about the trade came up on my feed and you would have thought they had just landed a unicorn. Can't wait to follow up in 6 months time. I guess I shouldn't really throw stones in this glass house.
  11. There’s been some talk that there’s another Liam Jurrah in this year’s draft pool but in reality, there’s only one Warlpiri Wizard
  12. Part Two - The Rose Garden by The Oracle Melbourne’s list manager Tim Lamb never promised us a rose garden prior to the AFL’s 2022 Free Agency and Trade Period but you won’t hear us little complaining about the following list of trades completed by Wednesday’s 7.30pm deadline - • Melbourne received a third round compensation pick (pick 52) as Jayden Hunt signed with West Coast via Free Agency • Melbourne traded picks 33, 43 and 53 to Port Adelaide for pick 27 • Melbourne traded Toby Bedford to GWS for pick 44 • Melbourne traded Luke Jackson, picks 44 and 67 to Fremantle for pick 13 and Fremantle’s future first and second round picks • Melbourne traded pick 27 to Collingwood for Brodie Grundy • Melbourne traded Sam Weideman, picks 54 and 72 to Essendon for pick 37 • Melbourne traded its future fourth round selection to Western Bulldogs for Josh Schache • Melbourne traded its future third round selection to Western Bulldogs for Lachie Hunter The combined effect of the above trades is to leave the Melbourne Football Club in a strong position with a combination of improved draft choices and the inclusion of what Lamb described as “battle-hardened senior talent”. The end of season changes were added to a day later with the delisting of Oskar Baker whose cards were no doubt marked with the acquisition of Hunter. The remaining uncontracted players, Michael Hibberd and Jake Melksham, are believed to have been offered contracts for next year. This leaves the club with the mandatory three vacancies on its Primary List, one of which will be filled in due course by the uplifting of rookie Kade Chandler onto the Primary List. The Demons take picks 13 and 37 into the November Draft and they will add a couple of rookies and possibly a Next Generation Academy player, again most likely as a rookie. There’s still a long way to go but the past fortnight has foreshadowed the possibility that the club could well emerge from its next big challenge smelling of roses. Bring it on.
