Memberships-where are they????

There seems to be a general malaise about the MFC at present, all talk about China but nothing about a membership drive and talking up the new exciting times ahead of the club. I would have thought that with a new coaching team in place, now was the time to start selling the club and enticing new members. Of course the money would be bloody important at this time of the year I would have thought. This is the latest I can remember for years that applications for memberships have come out so late, the idea previously was to try to have them out early enough so friends and relatives could receive membership cards for xmas. I know we can renew them on the web sight but that does nothing to help non members who probably would not even know the web site existed. Have the board and administration lost the plot concentrating on the China initiative ahead of making sure membership renewals and the money from them was coming in at the time of the year the club needs them most. Here's hoping they start to concentrate on the main game soon or our membership numbers will be well below even the doggies or kangaroos.

You can now renew on the website, and I know some people have received their membership pack (1 out of 5 in my household).

It does seem to be taking a while, which is a concern.

I covered that in the post, being able to sign new members on the website is a whole lot harder than being able to go through a pamphlet with all the different senarios with a prospective new menber.

Have received 2 out of 3 in this household, both of which ar Gold cards. The other will probably be a Silver card, so I wonder if they are sending them out in card order. ie. Platinum, then Gold, then Silver, then Bronze.

Looks like they are sending out the memberships by category.

How many years do you need to accumulate to get Silver (this will be my 8th consecutive season)?

Although I haven't got mine yet, one in my group ,got his today. We are REDLEGS are the price is still $355

Got my silver membership today, which looks good.

I however have just one question... Where the hell are the stickers?

I don't care about scarves and beanies and other such useless things, I WANT STICKERS!

We have a new car in the family and it has no stickers, as we were waiting for the new season stickers to arrive :(

They were going to send them, but the first batch faded in the boxes. Expect replacements by June at the latest.

The club are trying to come up with a temporary fix; the proposed solution is that all members will be sent a 4cm piece of sticky tape so that they can attach their membership cards to the back window.

Got mine today.

Gotta love the line "We are please to advise there will be no increase in membership prices for our 150th year, despite an increase in AFL ticket prices (Members who purchase after 31/12/07 will be subject to a $5 late service fee). In what way is signing after 31 December 2007 for a season which starts in late March 2008 LATE? Probably a little rude, I think its more polite to say people who pay early receive a discount.

Also what do people think about only getting one card that you reuse every year - personally I like a new membership card every year. Always good to see which players are on the card and the new design. Don't know about you but my credit cards and licence get a bit wrecked by three years, I'm not sure how holding onto the same membership card for 6 or 8 years will work.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
