TJ - the day he summed up his career

Featured Replies

I know I'm going to get crucified for this, but I think its time for Colin Sylvia to start producing some decent footy next year or we trade him next year and replace him with someone who has the right attitude to play AFL.

I'm not going to criticize you. I agree with you slyvia needs to step up to the next level

At the risk of doing TJ to death, one other characteristic also summed up his career. I think it was about 2 years ago that he managed to milk a double 50 by tricking his opponent (Giansiracusa?) to run through the mark of a Melbourne player. This was a great jape, and I think a goal may have resulted. From then on I noticed our boy continually trying the same trick, and in fact this year he "scored" twice with the tactic as I recall.

The point is this. Instead of doing the hard running to create an option for a team-mate, Travis decided to focus on the lazy, smart-aleck, low-return option. Yeah, he succeeded about 2 times in 3 years with the tactic, as against about a dozen attempts a game (equals approx 700 attempts over 3 years), whereas he could have run to advantage to put the most damaging ball-user in the team (himself) at the disposal of his team-mate.

Used to drive me spare.

Anyone else notice this?

I have never had a problem with what TJ did when he had the ball. Pure genius.

I had a problem with what he did when he didn't have the ball.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
