Pick 4.......the unlucky pick?

We all would have liked higher, but pick 4 is what we have...........so what can we expect to get with it?

You have to go back to 1999 until you see an outstanding player picked up at number 4 over the past decade........hoping we get it right this year.......we need to.........check out this list of recent pick 4's:

2006 Matthew Leuenberger - Brisbane Lions (looks promising!)

2005 Josh Kennedy - Carlton (high pick, but stocks seem to be dropping, now trade bait!)

2004 Richard Tambling - Richmond (a long way from delivering on potential)

2003 Farren Ray - Western Bulldogs (thank god we have CAC!)

2002 Tim Walsh - Western Bulldogs (no longer an AFL player)

2001 Graham Polak - Fremantle (on second chance with the Tiges)

2000 Luke Livingston - Carlton (career finished at end of 2006......never fired a shot!)

1999 Matthew Pavlich - Fremantle (thankfully one star amongst this list!)

1998 Ryan Fitzgerald - Sydney Swans (ohh no!)

1997 Mark Bolton - Essendon (make it stop.......I'm getting scared now!)

Apart from Pavlich, a pretty uninspiring list.......and plenty of horror / trade blunder stories of top players going after pick 4!

Good luck CAC........this is our first crack at a pick 4 for a while (if ever).........show them how it's done!!!!

Haha sorry Real Demon, it seems Buddy was pick 5 (can't remember who pick 3 was though). Interesting that all but 2 of those are/were tall players.

its not al ldoom and gloom

in those years look who else was around at 5,6, and 7

2006 Travis Boak, Mitchell Thorp and Joel Selwood

2005 Scott Pendlebury, Beau Dowler and Patrick Ryder

2004 Lance franklin,Tom Williams, Jordan lewis ( Meeson was next !! )

2003 Our Brocky, Kepler Bradley and Kan tenace

2002 Jarrad McVeigh, Steven Salopek and Andrew Mackie

2001 Xavier Clarke, Asheley Sampi and David Hale....Bartel was next !!

point is there was still talent around...just depends who ya pick and for why!!

pick 4 is still very very handy !! :)

Agree, will can still pick up a damn good player at 4, perhaps even a future champion...........just found the hits and misses with pick 4 over the years interesting.

I think Griffen went 3 that year.

You never Know pick 4 could be the greatest player in history(very very very very very very doubtful) still he could be an amazingly skilled player stuff what history has told us this is the present.

who was 4 when trapper was number 1 pick?

Mark Bolton

Leuenberger is going to be an absolute gun player.

Agree.

I agree, we should just throw pick 4 away now, to spare us the thought of failure.

Chris Connelly was involved with 2 of the better ones from that list... now he is a demon maybe his luck will rub off on pick 4?

Pick 4 is a decent pick. I think there will be a good player on hand, pcik 4 wont land us the best kid in the draft, but should provide us with a solid player for 10 years.

Another Pav would be FANTASTIC

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
