Tell me, when does Yze play well interstate ?

One of my great bug bears is how pathetic we are interstate and whenever I look for reasons, Yze is at the top of the list. seems to have no plan B if he isn't getting kicks at will along the flanks.

I take you back to round 21 v Adelaide last year for my most dissapointing game as a Melbourne supporter. I was ashamed that day about Yze as much as the Long/Simmonds incident in the 2000 GF (how we reacted). Simply just threw they ball in the air sometimes when under the pump. That was our chance to claim top 4.

I hope Bailey makes us an accountable team and flushes out the one-way players no matter how skillful they are, because I would rather barrack for the kangas who have bugger all hope for a premiership but give their all and do the small tough things.

You might as well spend the summer teaching TJ, Yze, Green how to tackle, how to protect each other, how to run full pelt just to get a small shephard on that can protect the ball carrier, to play for each other.

teach them how to be accountable, ensure the opposition earns each kick.

Circular reasoning and that post did nothing of the sort. In another thread, the same accusation was made against Chapman of Geelong and it was as invalid there as it is here.

Between rounds 3 and 8 this year, he was one of our best performed players despite being in a side that was at times uncompetitive. When it was competitive, he was generally one of the catalysts for it.

I've had this argument many times on this site. His history is consistent as one of Melbourne's better players. The problem is that now that the "frontrunner" or "downhill skier" opinion has been peddled for so long, some just mindlessly repeat it. Others (such as RR in particular) genuinely believe it and I respect that but disagree with it. This comment isn't directed at Deanox but more generally. As for comments that he is lucky to still be on the list given that he still has a year of his contract to go....

In my opinion, he was crucified by ND's decision last year to give him the captaincy against Fremantle and start him on the bench. I maintain that this makes a lie of those that say Yze was one of the favourites. It was a gutless coaching decision and it backfired. But as a result, it has given the (false) impression that he can't handle the heat when the game is there to be won. The same occurred with the way ND handled Travis Johnstone - rigid thinking and not prepared to try alternatives. Says a lot more about the coach than the players.

We're all arguing over Yze as if his presence was an underlying reason for our poor performance in 2007, or that he will drive our resurgence next year.

2008 will be defined by the incidence of injuries to key players (as all seasons at all clubs are) and the development of a young midfield group and the mental capacity of our 'senior' players.

A FP coming back from injury is not what we should worry ourselves about.

Will be fit

Will be hungry

Will stick it up all the naysayers

Will boot 60 goals as a permanent forward

Will come top 3 in the Bluey

Will lead the Demons to a preliminary Final, at worst

Will wow us on a regular basis with his freakish skills

Will form one of the best attacks in the competition along with Neitz, Newton, Robertson, Davey, Bate and Sylvia
