DANIHER: TO COACH OR NOT TO COACH

TO COACH OR NOT TO COACH

That is the question.

Interesting comment at the end about Kevin Sheedy -

"There is a lot of comment going around about what Sheeds should do and, like I said, I don't want to be making judgements on him. He's been a good mate and mentor of mine for a long time.

In his first year at Essendon in 1981, I had my best season of AFL football as a player. He was my coach until I retired and then a mentor when I joined the Bombers' coaching panel at the start of my coaching career.

All I will say about him is that he is a big boy, he's been in the game a long time and whatever decision Sheeds makes, I know it will be the best for him, his family and future club. And that's good enough for me."

Regardless of what you think of Neale Daniher, he can certainly hold his head high for the way he has conducted himself since giving away the coaching position - he is just such an honest likeable guy.

I know it has been said before by myself and other on this site, but i really do wish him all the best for his future. He still has a lot to offer the football world.

Quite right. He is an outstanding person, gave his all for the MFC and deserves success where ever he ends up..

Deesrock, i have to agree, there is a blank spot where Daniher used to be. Hopefully Sheeds fills it :D

I dont think anyone here or elsewhere ever doubted the calibre of the bloke. Top fella; was just the coaching that confounded us at times etc. I and many other always wished him the best. Stilll do. Hopefullly not 'too' much success at Essendon *wink* :)

I cannot wait for the first Sheedy Vs Daniher game next year ie Melbourne Vs Essendon ;)

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.

The Demons were sloppy all day and could not stop the run and carry of the fast moving Hawthorn as the Hawks cruised to an easy 36 point win. Is the season over yet?
