It is time to look forward

Murphy is only 192cm, the same height as Bate and Dunn, both of whom are generally thought to be too short to hold down a key position. He should not be trageted for trade IMO.

Just on this issue of 192cm being too short to be a key position player, I'd like to mention the following:

Matthew Pavlich - 192 cm

Chad Cornes - 192 cm

Wayne Carey - 192 cm

These three were/are all much bigger than Newton, Dunn and Bate but these three boys are only 20. I would expect one or two of them may very well develop into the weight/strength required to be a key position player. To be honest, I haven't given up hope of Jared Rivers becoming a Chad Cornes type CHB if he can ever stay injury fre.

Rivers is a superstar. Dont worry about him

I think Newton will be a strong Full Forward option so lets hope Bate and Dunn come on.

I tihnk Bate has done pretty good this year. His marking has been quite excellent.

What do people think of a possible trade between Miller to the Dogs for McMahon?

They need a leading foward of some description, and we could use a bit more run off the half back line. McMahon is a bit of an unfulfilled talent case, and has fallen out of favour a couple of times this year(he was horrible last night). Could be a win-win for both clubs.

Theres only one player IMO that will most likely be traded and thats Miller.

But thats no surprise. I think that clubs will be interested in him.

My trade

Cameron Bruce and Chris Johnson

to Fremantle for

their 1st round pick (pick 6?) and Ryan Murphy

YM we would take that in less than a second. i doubt fremantale would agree to this tho unfortunately.

Bruce may (just) be worth pick 6, but no club would give pick 6, plus more (Ryan Murphey>>>>>>C.Johnson)

I would settle for Bruce+C.Johnson for pick 6 definitely.

i like the thought process tho.

My trade:

1) Byrnes for pick 19

My trade;

Miller, Godfrey, Holland, Ferguson, Bode, Davey, Garland, White, Neaves, Robertson & Bizzell to Brisbane for;

J. Brown, Charman, Adcock, & Brennan.

My trade - Ward, Godfrey & Miller to WCE for Judd, Kerr, Hunter & pick 16/17

I'd take it... Hahaha ;)

Where's Darren Glass?

We're getting robbed here!

I don't know how a thread titled 'it's time to look forward', turned into an argument about which over the hill depth player is more worthy of keeping

FFS, have we really reached rock bottom?

Who here would choose Ward or Brown or Ferguson or Bizzell or Pickett over another Clint Bartram or Michael Newton?

That's right, these two were late picks (Bartram at 60!), and they are the sort of players we could miss out on if we hold onto players who have little left to offer us.

It's time to let go!

Exactly.

The only way to turn Pickett or Ward into the next Bartram or Petterd is to turn them into draft picks.

However, we could turn Bode into the next Whelan, or Garland into the next Newton, simply by waiting another year.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
