AFLW: Rd 09 vs Fremantle

That goes a long way to explaining the lack lustre performance

anyways, no time to dwell on the loss. Gotta get back on the horse and be ready for the Swans. They'll provide another tough test of our flag credentials

Good news… the Club has said both Tay and GG have had scans and have been assessed and there appears to be no structural damage with either. We now await the injury report when it’s furnished later in the week.

Absolutely, no excuses, but that does explain a lot. Those early stages were frustrating because I felt that it would have been an emphasis going into the game to really start well and get on top, so I was disappointed with that aspect. Adds a bit of context.

Also forgot to commend Tayla and actually several of our players who really put it all on the line with the game in the balance and many out on their feet. We're going to start winning these close ones at some point!

I'm no elite sportsperson, but I can't imagine being stuck in a lift for an hour is anything but an atrocious preparation for an AFLW game. Kudos to those involved for keeping their spirits up.

Maybe we need to start having our players travel in lifts separately 😆 At the very least, not Kate AND Tyla.

In fact, that particular group looked like our bench would three minutes to go and 50 points up in a prelim final!

Lookee where I am…

I’ve been to the men’s trivia night which is sorta fun but I imagine tonight will be SO MUCH FUN. It’s the inaugural W trivia night

Gotta go! The Drag Queens are ready to get proceedings underway. I’ve already told LJ33 and Dingo our table will romp home and leave the other pretenders for dead 👊🏼

GO US!!!

@Ghostwriter another little task if I may.

When you speak with any of the women's team, could you please encourage them to bring more sass to the end-of game team song? The arm around should deal is very blokey. The women have produced a wee swagger. Time for boldness has come.

It's time for our pioneering women to bring female sass to the team song.

I was a basketball coach for all 3 of my kids - 2 girls 1 boy. I enjoyed it so much I continued coaching b/ball after they stopped playing. I coached many boys and girls teams, loving the difference in coaching between boys and girls. As a hobby, I even coached representative junior basketball for 3 years I enjoyed it so much.

I suggested to each girls' team to come up with a little chant they'd do pre-game and coming out of timeouts. Many of the girls' teams developed fabulous chants with hand claps, twists, turns, etc. The boys had no interest.

Vive la difference I say - long live the difference between men and women.

Girls and young women have many instances of synchronised activity - team gymnastics, cheerleading competitions, synchronised swimming. When I lived in Shanghai I'd go for a run each morning. Early every morning, in every park, in many different areas of each park, there would have large groups of women doing a synchronised dance routine. Often there would be a strange dude or two copying the women's routine behind a tree some distance away.

No, one of them wasn't me.

Anyway, I'd love to see the women's team move away from the blokey team song routine and bring some sass. Dees girl fans would simply love it.

Vive la difference!

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
