The girls are due out on the park any minute now. I just got here (thanks PTV, you suck) to find out the VFL captain’s run just wrapped up and I missed it 😭

Trigger alert: there’s a soccer ball here!!!

Paxy acknowledged they were bloody lucky to get away with the win, that they were complacent and let things happen that they usually wouldn’t let happen.

Blaithin, Goldy and Tahls are in great spirits considering.

The smile on Gabby’s face is gold. She’s so happy to be playing.

Each player has a family member/friend with them as a training partner. Banno’s mum Shaz is a crackup… so keen. A couple of dads getting shown up by their daughters 😅Lily Johnson’s boyfriend is her training partner.

Lampy is training separately as though rehabbing 🤷‍♀️

I met a new girl today, Danika McDonald, a 16yo from Alice Springs who trained with the team and will train with them for a couple of weeks. She’s an NGA product. She hopes to one day be on our list ❤️💙

Was introduced to Mr Hore, father of Kate. We had an in-depth discussion on hand-warmers and whether you should put them in your shoes. We agreed to disagree 😁

Training sounds like a real hoot.

It is. But it’s always serious. No S&Gs here, even though it’s a captain’s run. They train hard and they train long. The session was scheduled to run for an hour. When I left it had gone an extra half hour and they were still out there.

I guess I make it sound like it’s a real hoot but that’s because I interact with them before and after the session and yeah, they’re so much fun. But once they hit the park… it’s serious and intense af.

The general vibe was awesome. Everyone’s quietly confident of a solid win tomorrow, with the exception of one who’s not so quiet… I said all the “right” things to Paxy about tomorrow… a win’s not a given, every game is a challenge, you can’t take oppo for granted etc. Paxy cuts me off and says “Yeah nah we’ll [censored] smash ‘em.” 😂

I'm sure Lily's boyfriend enjoyed the footy master-class 😆

I reckon Lily wore her poor boyfriend out. 😅

Hi Ghostwriter. How did Danika look on the training track. It is obviously a great sign she has been invited to train with the AFLW program for a couple of weeks and looks to be a great prospect for us for the future.

Danika looked great, very impressive. Quick and light on her feet. Took on drills with enthusiasm and seemed to revel in being out there. At the end of the session her academy chaperone (for want of the proper term) was genuinely delighted with how she went. Lots of praise and she was super proud.

She’s also a sweet kid and has an infectious smile.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.
