Team Melbourne

I applaud the board for being innovative enough to get this concept off the ground.

I still think it will benefit the other sporting clubs moreso than us, but this is not a criticism.

For example, some sort of combined membership might get me to head along to the occasional basketball or netball game, but i can't imagine supporters of any of those other codes not already having exposure in some way to AFL.

no Melbourne Victory as yet?

They don't want in.

i'm disappointed that two clubs i love can't have an alignment but can understand why its probably not in the best interests of the Victory to join up

Looks like most MVFC fans are happy that they haven't joined, going by their website

MVFC fans website

im happy with the storm joining in , there destroying the nrl competition this year as per usual

im a proud melbournite, i support anything with the melbourne name in it

with all due respect to soccer, and soccer fans in general, that board reminds me of the collingwood boards...

this is really a great exercise in synergy. I wholeheartedly believe that this will reaps dividends hand over fist in the medium to long term.

The "Brand" MELBOURNE is probably unrivaled in Australia. International audiences know of the Australian Open in...Melbourne. The F1 Grand Prix. in ..... Melbourne. Recentlly the world swimming champs in...Melbourne. The MELBOURNE Cup. What Cricket fan in the world doesnt know the MELBOURNE cricket ground !!.

if you want something done in sport...it gets DONE in Melbourne !!

Even the Rugby has its largest crowds in good ol Melbourne.

The potential to market MELBOURNE is really just phenomenal. People may laugh and think Im just a little crazy ( proabably not withot merit !! ) ... but this is truly a significant achievement. Congratulations and thankyou to those involved.

Those that havent joined.. who cares...you'll be screaming and banging on the door in time !!

the heavy duty coprorate oozing and schmoozing that will eventuate from this will bring th eMFC into contact with Sponsors and opportunities it could only have ever dreamed of !!

Eddie everywhere must be spitting chips !!! hehehehe

i wonder what the new netball team will adopt as team name and colours ?

what about the Bushrangers, i know its not melbourne, but it is vics cricket team

Netball Victoria is included so there's no reason they couldn't be.

The Long term Benefits of this alignment will be HUGE. Just wait till those new facilities are built. This may have saved the demons Long term and given them another chance at being a Power Club-Like "Big Kev" I'm Excitwd

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
