Well, here we are again.  Melbourne's season is over, there's no footy at all this week and the Demonland boards are deathly quiet as there are clearly no football issues worth discussing at the moment (unless I've missed something).

It's that time when gardens get attention, odd jobs are caught up on, and we re-establish contact with our family.

I spoke to mine only last night and they seem nice, although I was somewhat surprised to learn that my wife no longer works at Brashs.

When things are so boring, the only real option is to fill in all that spare time with another brainteaser.

Today's team is a mix of past and present players, including six former Demons, that looks quite strong on paper.

What common factor unites the players in today's team?  Answers in a PM only s'il vous plait.

There have been a couple of nibbles, but the bait is still on the hook.

The team needs a coach and Stuart Dew has been duly appointed.  Onya Stewie!

We have a winner!

Congratulations are in order for @mo64 who has solved the mystery and, in doing so, given his personal brand an immeasurable boost.

I thought we may have had more players.  It's not like there's anything else to distract us right now.

My bad.  I probably need to be locked up in a cell (or something like that).

I have to bail out for tonight, but will leave you with another clue.

There are more than one set of father/sons in the solution.

Maybe that might help to draw some inspiration.

I thought by now that other matters may have quietened down and you'd be looking for a diversion.

* voiceover*  But they hadn't quietened down.  There was debate raging on several fronts.

Any further responses would be unreal.  You might say the same about the answer.

Who will be in the frame for second and third place?

I really expected a more animated conversation, but I'm fresh out of clues.

Answer to be revealed later this arvo for anybody with a modicum of interest.

Time to put this debacle out of its misery.  I really stuffed up with the timing of this, didn't I?

My team all share a first name with a cartoon character, as shown below.

B:       Brian Griffin     Rod Flanders     George Jetson

H/B:   (Sideshow) Bob Terwilliger   Tom Cat     Troy McClure

C:       Stan Marsh     (Reverend) Tim Lovejoy     Patrick Star

H/F:    Charlie Brown     (Mayor) Joe Quimby     Archie Andrews

F:       (Groundskeeper) Willie MacDougal     Fred Flintstone     Bobby Hill

R:       Carl Carlson     (Doctor) Nick Riviera     Todd Flanders

I/C:    Ned Flanders     Eric Cartman     Peter Griffin     Chris Griffin

SUB:   (Professor) John Frink

COACH:  Stewie Griffin

We must be in different generations Mr D ... I only recognise a handful of those characters!

Just as well I didn't try too hard to solve the puzzle, eh!.  My brain would be fried trying to remember something that isn't there!!!

As always thanks for your work ...

Almost half of the characters are from 'The Simpsons'.  Not a fan, Luci?

A passing interest.  In the FTA days it was in the wrong time slot.  Nowadays, other things to do.

Of the little I saw - a very clever show!

I've only just seen this, @Demonstone! You went WAY too early with the reveal! 🥺

Nice to have your OP for a wake-up chuckle, though!😄

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
