Trac Forward

I am surprised they had Petracca playing 65% forward against St Kilda. I thought he played a normal split between midfield and forward last week.

The difference with the Carlton game was that he played as a full forward. This made sense given the wet conditions and he was invisible in the midfield early in the game (and Fritsch was not effective as our deepest forward).

In dry conditions, I think he is better up in the midfield and Fritsch offers us more as our primary one-on-one target inside 50.

Very interesting.  There's no doubt we're trying to get some scoring power and probably retention i50 happening from CP5.  As well as making it a difficult match up for the oppo.

I also think it's a great mix for us as it will help him to shake off any hard tags.

It also brings ANB into the mid field where his last kick inside is our best at the moment and should help improve connection rates.

It says Tracc's highest rated games were vs the Blues & the Saints.

I have his best rating as Rnd 2 vs the Hawks (6.5) and Rnd 1 vs the Doggies (6.0)

Looking back through his season ratings, although sitting at No.1 rank this year so far, his best H&A season in the red & blue to date was 2023.

He may better that this year and was on track to do so prior to about Rnd 8 before copping some heavy tags since and having to fight his way through those.  Ratings reflecting that since imv.

Petracca's H&A Season Ratings ...

2018 - 2.94

2019 - 2.62

2020 - 3.56

2021 - 4.04

2022 - 4.46

2023 - 4.70

2024 (to Rnd 11) - 4.47

essentially what cal seems to be saying here is that petracca is a superstar no matter where he plays?

captain obvious called!

this whole 'we should play trac forward all the time' theory is NEVER going to happen; he's one of the most dynamic players in the game, and he goes where he's needed at any time, be that running thru the midfield or stationed forward

he's a gun, and one of the most 'personable' players in the competition to boot

It's such a small sample size though that Cal is going with.

And all of our mids were invisible early in the game against Carlton.

I think we still need to use Trac in the middle, but totally happy with a 60-40 or 65-35 split depending on the game.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
