Of those WA boys Rodriguez is a really good player but I’m not certain there’s a lot more upside. Will be a player but not sure on tools to separate him from other mids, currently a big bodied player for his age

Blake Kelly is a serious player with huge upside super clean hands, good awareness, vision and decision making in congestion

Toby Whan I expect him to climb, smooth mover, reads the play well beautiful left foot penetrating kick, plays midfield but at next level I see a really good half back who can be really damaging

Basil Hart - haven’t seen a lot of Basil, but he’s a typical skilled medium forward with clean hands, good lateral movement and goal sense. Had some injury issues but I don’t see a lot of real X factor

Cody Curtin - he’s close to 200cm now and will be sought after next year. Didn’t play development or Futures footy and only got serious about footy this year. Really raw but developing quickly. Different player to brother Dan, less skilled but has more athleticism and really good closing speed to be a strong key defender. He will be taken next year and with some work put into him will be a really good 1 v 1 KPD

Marcus Cassidy - haven’t seen a lot of Marcus as he’s playing PSA at Trinity, but he’s a skilled big mid who can play forward and impact the scoreboard. Query on him is he’s is an absolute gun underager but is there more upside

Jadd Hill - tough as teak midfielder, country boy who has played against bigger and senior players for a long time. Clean hands, good awareness and skills are ok. I think he needs to develop another string to the bow, whether it’s scoreboard impact, playing off halfback or become an endurance beast because there’s an overload of players this size

Charlie Banfield and Wes Walley from this years squad aren’t mentioned but both will come into contention

Banfield is a big bodied mid who can play forward around the 6ft 2 mark and not yet 17. Great endurance, strong mark and strong in congestion.

Walley can be hot and cold but has plenty of X factor. Pace, lateral movement, quick feet and a fantastic leap. Has the ability to gather ground balls at pace inside F50, chase down defenders and create headaches for opposition sides. Consistency and mindset are the biggest focus points for him.

There's a good write up on his performance for his school team in the Herald Sun online edition.

Getting back to the 2024 draft

@Whispering_Jack 👏👏👏 Langford trained with the Dees over the summer. Definitely would have impressed the club given his strong work ethic and talent.  Let’s hope he’s one of the available young midfielders at our pick on draft night.

VIC COUNTRY

THE STAR: HARVEY LANGFORD

A powerful midfielder from the Dandenong Stingrays, Langford finished the tournament not only as Vic Country's MVP but also as a joint winner of the Larke Medal.

A hardworking contest star, Langford also has a booming kick when he finds space on the outside and can take a strong mark.

He averaged 25.5 disposals, 6.3 clearances and 7.5 score involvements across his four games for Vic Country.

"He was superb from the first game against SA,"

Vic Country coach Paul Corrigan said.

"He just carried that form through for us. He pretty much played the whole time in the middle. He was exceptional around stoppages and clearances.

"He also found a lot of ball on the outside, but also proved on the weekend he's got that aerial prowess to go forward and mark the footy and hit the scoreboard as well. I just thought his whole campaign was super consistent and really impressive for us."

This draft is very strong and I’d like to see the Dees find room for 4 or even perhaps 5 draft picks this year.
                                   …

@Whispering_Jack Langford is definitely a player that would be on JTs list.  There is a lot of quality midfielders going down to picks in the second round and even early third round. I’ll look to do a top 50 by next weekend.

I’d even by open to trade our 2025 1st round to get another 2024 first round pick. I’d call the GC suns to discuss.

It was a prediction …

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
