Outs. Melksham - long term injury.  Oliver - indefinite. Joel Smith - suspension TBC.

Kozzy missing round 0 but available for round 1.
Billings may get the nod ahead of Chandler at the start.

Hopefully Brayshaw and Petty are right to play.

Best 44

B: Lever, May, McVee  HB: Salem, Tomlinson, Rivers  C: Langdon, Petracca, Hunter  HF: McAdam, van Rooyen, Neal-Bullen  F: Pickett, Petty, Fritsch FOLL: Gawn, Sparrow, Viney  IC: Bowey, Billings, Brayshaw, Tmcd   Sub. Spargo

Casey

B: Hore, Adams, *Freeman   HB: Connelly*, Turner, Woewodin    C: Windsor, Laurie, Howes  HF: Tholstrup, Schache, Chandler   F: Moniz-Wakefield, B.Brown, Jefferson  FOLL: Fullarton, White*, Steele*  IC: Shipp*, Verrall, K.Brown,Szybkowski*

I'm surprised you have T.Mac in the best 22

Normie what do you think of me dropping Tomlinson? Lever to CHB and Brayshaw to change in between HB and midfield.

I'm sure Oliver won't be fit enough for the opening round I think he may play in the 2's. I'm not sure how fit McAdam and Billings are. Billings is getting over a hamstring and has injury problems in the past and McAdam hasn't looked fit since joining the club. The sub role could suit him as he won't play an entire game.

Best 44

B: McVee, May, Bowey HB: Salem, Lever, Rivers C: Langdon, Petracca, Hunter HF: Sparrow, van Rooyen, Neal-Bullen F: Fritsch, Petty, Spargo FOLL: Gawn, Brayshaw, Viney IC: Chandler, Laurie, Woewodin, Tholstrup SUB: McAdam

Casey

B: Hore, Tomlinson, Adams HB: Connelly*, McDonald, Turner C: Windsor, Oliver, Howes HF: Billings, Schache, Sestan F: Jefferson, B. Brown, Moniz-Wakefield FOLL: Fullarton, White*, Steele* IC: Verrall, Farris-White, K. Brown, Lual*, Shipp*

I'm tossing between Billings and Tholstrup. If Billings is fully fit then it's Billings but if not it's Tholstrup.

Here's a different take for the off-season ...

We've got a bit of an age hole in our list with no-one born in 1998 on it.  There's an 18 month gap between Schache currently at 26y4m and Fullarton at 24y10m.  There happens to be 21 players Schache and older and 23 players Fullarton and younger so I've gone for two line-ups of the "mature" and the "youthful".  It does give a bit of insight into positional depth.

Mature
B: Tomlinson May Hore
HB: Salem Lever Brayshaw
R: Gawn Oliver Viney
C: Hunter Petracca Langdon
HF: ANB McDonald McAdam
F: Fritsch B.Brown Melksham
I: Billings Schache Smith

Youthful
B: McVee Adams Rivers
HB: Howes Turner Bowey
R: Fullarton Sparrow Laurie
C: Spargo Woewodin Windsor
HF: Chandler Petty AMW
F: Pickett JVR Jefferson
I: Verrall Sestan Tholstrup K.Brown KFW

You can quibble over the position selection - the only one I selected who really hasn't played there, doesn't played there currently at MFC or Casey, or isn't earmarked to play there is Spargo on the wing.  Howes could slot in there but who plays back then? I think that young backline needs a bit of his height.

The Swans possible team.

B: Cunningham, McCartin, Lloyd

HB; Florent, Rampe, Blakey

C: Ch.Warner, Rowbottom, McInerney

HF: Adams, McDonald, Heeney

F: Hayward, Amartey, Papley

FOLL: Grundy, Parker, Gulden

IC: McLean, Jordon, Campbell, Fox

SUB: Wicks

Lever can take McDonald and May can take Amartey we don't need a third tall defender.

Good give Disco a go and he can just take up from where he left off in Round 24 last year.

So glad to have Marty Hore back in the ranks again.

Was very disappointed after his departure but he's back again where he belongs.

Won't be easy breaking into the best defence in the Competition but it he adds more pressure and depth.

Maybe he'll get a gig with Rivers playing in the middle more often.

I also hope Tomlinson is a regular in the backline this year along with a healthy and fit Salo.

Really a player of Marty’s limited ability a saviour? I can’t see it. Disco yes and Adams later in the year but an interceptor who will  struggle vs Weightman and JUH worries me a lot.

Saviors a tad strong don't you think?

You reworded my post.

I said I think he's a player who adds more depth and pressure. That's it and that's all. Simple.

Your post was a big leap from there 58 er. Almost Kozzie like .

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
