Thanks to @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew I can now reveal that both bench players would qualify as Captain.

Now that the answers have been declared and winners announced (congratulations, as I had no idea), I can remember several of these goals - particularly Stinger's goal and his display of elation. It was a marque of a champion to come in the near future. My question relates to the Captain of such a team. Frank Davis was one of our best in lean times and also, one of our great leaders, working from the back pocket across the whole backline setting examples and imagery for all of our players. In terms of footballing stature, Davis was a squirt but by jiminy he could play against all sizes, all physiques, all comers. I'd consider him to be in the top six of Demon captains without doubt.

I cannot believe I didn't get this one. I reckon I've DM'd Demonstone with this answer at least 3 times as a hail mary in previous quizzes.

Pack it in son.

Emeritus membership of the winners' circle for you then, layz 😊

And y'all come back now, y'hear?

Australia is all out at Edgbaston, having fallen just short of their goal of a first innings lead.

Not so with the above team.  All the players in this side achieved the comparatively rare feat of scoring a goal with their first kick in VFL/AFL football.

Incredibly, both the bench players in James Magner and Peter Tossol goaled with their first two kicks!  I was unaware of this when compiling the team and thank both Tims for bringing it to my attention.

The baton of bafflement has now been passed to @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew who will present the next teaser.

Gonna wait now till after Sunday's Riddle In The Middle, for fun in the afterglow or distraction from the doom.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.

The Demons were sloppy all day and could not stop the run and carry of the fast moving Hawthorn as the Hawks cruised to an easy 36 point win. Is the season over yet?
