Newton, everyone blame Sautner for taking his spot at Sandy, but correct me if I'm wrong there is still another 17 starting positions including 5 forward spots at Sandy. If this guy is the player a lot of you think he is why hasn't he been able to force his way and cement a senior spot at Sandy. All he has done is kick some bags at VFL seconds level, but even at that level he is very inconsistant he may kick a bag one week and not get a touch for a few.

CJ looked great pre-season can't get a touch in the season. Buckley, the coach mustn't have much faith in him, looked good pre-season and played well enough last week but hasn't even been named as an emergency when he have a stack of injuries.

Bate shows glimpses and looks good sometimes and others times looks real bad, he is young give him that and hopefully overtime he finds consistancy.

PJ/Jamar are the up to it?

I don't think ND is the right man for the job, but he is now limited to the players he has avaliable, if we get to 0 wins and 7 losses or 1-7 or we can't make the finals then it is time to see if these kids can actually play, not round 3.

Mick Malthouse obviously doesn't agree with you. He played three new boys tonight and blow me down, all they did was kick goals and add pace and help their side to a win. Toovey 3 goals Dick 2 goals. At Melbourne they would have been playing against Werribee.

Absolutely right. And been at Sandy for most of the year. Malthouse, Sheedy, Pagan, Williams and Matthews only have 13 premierships between them and are all going with their kids. What would they know about winning teams? Genius "decade" Daniher, with none, prefers the likes of Godfrey, Ward, Brown, Holland et al. Playing kids is 'giving up' is it? Well then - all those premiership coaches have just given up.

Redleg is right on the mark here.. we as a club seem to wait for some ...i dunno...some sign from god.. or should that be from the other way ( lol ) before we trot our youth out.

It reminds me of folk having kids...waiting for the right time in their lives...trust methere is no such thing.. nor do I suspect at times is there in footy with the kids. Some HAVE the spunk and raw talent very early, but if you sit on it too long the shine soon turns to tarnish. I was very interested to see how these kids went for the wobblies..and they actually made a difference, they werent along for the ride.

some seem to think many of us are throwing in the towel by suggesting we play a little more youth, rough and raw as it might be. Quite the contrary, we're actually proposing we attack, that we dont surrender by simply trotting out the same ol suspects etc. The oppo coaches have all these guys worked out to a T , why not do something a little less expected.

This club loves to protect a losing position rather than risk the chance to gain a winning one. Like much in life in order to go forward and gain you have to move out of your comfort zone. Unfortuantely it seems the comfort zone for the MFC is to finish outside the four in the nowheres ..and end up with nothing !! but hey..its nice and comfy !!

- Actually, that's a thought. It may well be the case that CAC is due for a few duds. But regardless of their eventual fate, some of them have done enough to at least be given a run at the highest level.

- I reckon it might be fair to temper the excitement of Juice a little bit, but I'm not sure your reasoning is fair. The 5 forward-line spots are taken. Dunn, Sautner, Sylvia, and a resting ruckman tend to go there, and at least 2 of those spots belong to small players, which obviously he is not. Yes there's a spot for him, but he's more than done enough to warrant a few quartrs out of the square. The problem is not that he hasn't done enough to be selected there... he has! He's done more than enough. It's that he's not been given enough time there. For the record I don't in any way advocate the selection of Newton at FF at Sauntner's expense.

Your last point is a good one, but over 50 goals in just over 10 matches in the ressies suggests he SHOULD be playing in the seniors... quiet matches or not quiet matches.

I've probably said enough about my desire to have Newton play in the seniors. For all I know there's a perfectly good, but confidential reason for his non-inclusion. I'm willing to let the match-committe decide his immediate fate without giving them any more of a hard time. Players like PJ, Jamar and others could very well turn the tide in the forward line. But if they don't, I'd be really disappointed if he wasn't given a go. In terms of type, he's perfect for our purposes. That's not the problem. It's whether or not he's capable of doing enough when the bar is raised so much higher.

i reckon raw players are like veggies ( food ) in that you got to pick them at the right time... and use them when prime...or they just go a bit off.. its like saying...we'll pick them in 4-2-6 !!
