Obviously, I can't answer the question, but for those wondering why the 'vanden' is in lower case and one word, it relates to the origins of the name. Lower case and one word probably means that he is of Belgian origin and not Dutch. The Dutch tend to use a capital V and a capital D. So Van Den Burg.

Van in Dutch means 'from' or 'of' while den is 'the' and burg or berg is mountain or slope. So the name literally means from the mountain.

The only exception to this is if the name was Anglicised for reasons we don't know!

From memory someone who knew him (@rpfc?) said he actually stylised it that way, i.e. Van Den Berg. I think the AFL media may have been the ones who bastardised it.

Good info. And I think pronunciation is more like fun rather than van in caravan

Did anyone else notice that Vanders bounced about a foot off the ground after he was cleaned up by Weid?

Small v. From memory, he preferred it but Ainslie never wrote it properly. But I think that was more to do with the bloke who did the team sheets - lovely bloke but slightly dim and was a tough conversation.

I guess that is the same at all clubs...

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
