Lower case and one word probably means that he is of Belgian origin and not Dutch. The Dutch tend to use a capital V and a capital D. So Van Den Burg. Van in Dutch means 'from' or 'of' while den is 'the' and burg or berg is mountain or slope. So the name literally means from the mountain. The only exception to this is if the name was Anglicised for reasons we don't know! From memory someone who knew him (@rpfc?) said he actually stylised it that way, i.e. Van Den Berg. I think the AFL media may have been the ones who bastardised it. Quote

Grr-owl 1,258 Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Did anyone else notice that Vanders bounced about a foot off the ground after he was cleaned up by Weid? Quote

But I think that was more to do with the bloke who did the team sheets - lovely bloke but slightly dim and was a tough conversation. I guess that is the same at all clubs... Quote
