BRAD JOHNSON’S 2015 TOP 10

1. Clayton Oliver (Melbourne)

2. Daniel Rioli (Richmond)

3. Jacob Hopper (GWS)

4. Jade Gresham (St Kilda)

5. Josh Dunkley (Western Bulldogs)

6. Charlie Curnow (Carlton)

7. Tom Doedee (Adelaide)

8. Callum Mills (Sydney)

9. Wayne Milera (Adelaide)

10. Jacob Weitering (Carlton)

Daniel Rioli at 2? Spare me Johnson..

I'd easily have the likes of Dunkley, Gresham and Hopper ahead of Rioli.

Harry McKay is also stiff not to be on that list. Would easily have him ahead of Milera and Rioli. 204cm key forward who kicked 30 goals in 20 games this year. Can see him heading towards Tom Lynch territory in a few years time.

Yep. At the very least, Josh Dunkley deserves to be second on that list. Absolute gun.

4 out of 10 in the present top 10.

Only Melbourne could say it was really happy with its pick that year and even then we would have taken Mills if available IIRC. Essendon two picks for little value and Carlton only lucked out because of Curnow.

The draft is way too much of a lottery. Time to increase the age by a year or so. Three months each year for 4-8 years would be a good transition. Give the draftees a chance to study/take up a trade etc thus standing them in better stead for later life given that two thirds will not make it beyond 50 games.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
