Mid Season Trade

Featured Replies

The AFL seems to be pushing it  Mid Season Trade

Fox's view of Rules for eligibility:

  • - Must have played eight AFL games or fewer this season (ie less than half of all matches)
  • - Must not be listed as out for the season on the club’s latest injury list
  • - Must not have been first drafted within the last two years (2017 or 2018)
  • - Must not have been signed through the 2019 pre-season supplementary period or 2019 mid-season draft

Suspect Fox needed to change their criteria to include 'Not traded in, in the last 2 years' to ensure the likes of Preuss aren't eligible.

Fox's best guess at our eligible players:

  • Mitch Hannan
  • Declan Keilty
  • Jay Kennedy-Harris
  • Jordan Lewis
  • Braydon Preuss
  • Tim Smith
  • Billy Stretch
  • Corey Wagner

Hannan probably shouldn't be there as he has limited games due to injuries.  Lewis shouldn't be there either.

Wouldn't begrudge the others wanting to be traded.

It could have helped us cover some of our injuries this year so I'm ok with the idea of mid season trade

Edit: thanks @olisikfor the correction - yes it is trade not draft.  Have changed title etc

Draft or trade period? Mid season draft is already a thing.

Too many f'ing rules. Just remove all these proposed rules except the salary cap then allow apposing teams a window to a veto on a deal if it's too one sided (ala NBA rules).

What do you ‘trade’?  Player for player?  Draft picks?  Mid year draft picks?

sounds like more Nero- fiddle while Rome burns.

would be interesting if players ‘nominated’ rather than became eligible- would show mercenaries and could disrupt team cultures.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
