But @Baghdad Bob, abusing players is just an innate function of passionate supporters. That’s how it’s always been. The tough men in the 1970s didn’t seem upset about the unsolicited abuse *they* received around the clock on Twitter.

I wish someone had told me there was twitter back in the 70’s

The seven blokes that missed before Weiderman in the last quarter are earning a hell of a lot more......& If they had done there jobs properly then Sam wouldn't have missed I'm sure of that. Maybe you should hang them instead of hanging a kid still finding his way?

Late response to this, but I just wanted to say that I agree with you. I'm actually really happy he's been re-signed. He sounds relieved, so hopefully it leads to better footy.

However, my point still stands. Many of the other guys that missed (that each should have kicked the goal), are earning big bucks, but they have largely all proven their worth. Weid has not, which means he doesn't get to ask for big bucks until he does. And that means kicking goals straight out in front, which is meat and potatoes stuff for a KPF.

But like I said, I'm hoping the contract leads to some good footy because I think he's capable.

I know you've probably read this and I know the majority won't change their behaviour but the more astute will.  It's time we got serious about the realities of bullying on social media and realised its impact.

I'm not having a crack at you LITD but it really is an issue.  I know because I sponsored players at MFC for about 30 years and I've spoken to them about it.  The sort of justifications you raised in your post are just not valid.

I wish @Demonland would do something about the abuse this site is responsible for but I do understand that it's not easy to moderate.

Where does one draw the line. what is abuse to me may be water off your back.

We are on 2 different frequencies here Bb.

Hardly anyone would argue against your conviction  that online abuse is damaging and offensive. But what is abuse?

To be fair I think the goal posts got moved.

Ive called out players here for underperforming  as have many. Is that bullying  and where does one draw the line?

Words like spud...dud...(personally i dont like them) but are they offensive?

Also do we start removing supporters from the ground?

Maybe... but I think you know what Im saying.

At the end of the day one would hope common sense reigns but we know it never does.

What i do take from your post is that it doesnt hurt to be reminded that comments here are read by players a nd their friends and family.

To that end I accept we need to be careful.

Go dees.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.
