Hey Rob, any chance you’re in town for the opening round?

I’d love to, but unfortunately haven’t visited Oz since 2016!

Anticipating watching our hopefully grand season from LA on the “Watch AFL Live” app.

All the best to you.

Don’t think there’s anything ‘quick’ about Pruess. He’ll back decent ruck backup for when Gawn needs a rest or gets injured... and that’s about it.

That was like watching an interview with a less nasty version of Kylie Mole.

You may be right having watched him closely at Shepp.

However, I think my expectations of him were unreasonable.

I expected or hoped to see a big guy that could make an immediate impact.

Unfortunately, you can't help but compare him to Max and the difference is huge. But one's an All Australian and the other, a bloke who has been playing in the twos for North.

Preuss is still young and we know that big guys can take years to mature and find their feet in the big time.

So we need to lower our expectations and give him time.

He has had little experience at a senior level and was almost forgotten at North. After a period in the wilderness, he has come to a new club and new environment.

If he is going to develop and improve, the club will need to give him adequate game time, and not have him languishing at Casey.

I still think his recruitment was a good one and that he will play a role this season, and, as you say, at least be a solid backup to Max when required. And Max and the club will need a backup.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
