Pert spoke really well. He is seeking advice and ideas from “Melbourne” people before he stamps his operational style into the job.

We will once again be a Big Club” where we always should have stayed. I have no doubt.

“Get the kids on board before they turn 9...”

100,000 members within 5-10 years can be achieved with winning footy, played the right way

SWYL I will always be a Dees supporter but I wont be a member when there are 100 000 members. Why would you be a member in that number?  Imagine Richmond playing Melbourne  with 100k each. Less than 50k can get into the MCG once you take out AFL members and MCC members, it would be impossible to get a seat. When the MFC reaches 50K I will become a three game member and then go to Games against interstate sides. At 70K it will become a TV game for me. However I don't envisage this happening any time soon so watching the Dees in person will continue to be fun.

Attitudes like this have held us back for nearly 6 Decades now.

OD wants a nice comfy seat in our 100,000 seat Stadium, but if it gets a little too busy, he will withdraw his Membership and Punish the Club...

I want the MFC to have 300,000 passionate Members, who go to MFC Social Clubs around Melbourne to watch and Celebrate the team, when the MCG is booked out

disapointed in you OD...

maybe Nought is a better club for you

At 100 000 members you wont be able to get into anything SWYL. It will purely be a donation to the club. At 100K members they wont need me anyway and by the time they get to 70K I will be either dead or dribbling down my chin and not know what day it is. Oh by the way It is not been me holding the MFC back I have been a member for most of the the last 45 years including the last 16 straight.

Clubs always need Members OD. I NEVER want to see the MFC kicked around the league EVER again.

Your attitude towards the future is very similiar to that of the club in 1965 and we all know how that panned out...

Stick in there OD. You haven’t watched your team win a GF in your 45 years of membership so why worry all of a sudden about making a donation? ?

If we get get 100,000 members we will be allocated prime time games and free-to-air TV privileges!  Why jump off a winning Club? ?

Oh Rubbish the supporters / members have not been the major problem SWYL. For many years MFC members could only elect a percentage of the board the rest was nominated by the MCC. The members of the MFC have had to suffer through decades of mismanagement and  players who were not up to winning enough matches to even make finals let alone grand finals. Appearing  in two GF's in 54 years says it all and has not been caused by the long suffering members the majority of which pay there fees every year and get no say in how the club has been run.

I am not the problem!

I am not going anywhere CBDees I am just making the point that as the numbers rise then the benefits of going to games falls. Eventually you reach a cross over point where watching games on some form of media is more enjoyable. I will not go to Collingwood or Richmond home games next year, just too hard.

Sure you are. You don’t want the club to become Big. You want it to be small so you can get your seat.

I have had enough of sitting in a huge stadium where i can count the supporters in other Grandstands.  It is embarrassing.

We are the Club of the City. We must work bloody hard to hold that privilege

100,000 will become our standard Membership as this City grows each week

I have no idea how my being a member for most of the last 45 years has caused the club to have low members and low results.

Can you explain how my membership for 45 years  and attendance at games has caused the MFC problems?

You will be jumping off soon because it will all become a little bit too hard, you have already stated that. That is exactly the attitude the MFC does not need right now going forward

Get rusted on. The Club is going to grow. If i never get to another game, i shall always help the club Financially and will love seeing a Capacity Crowd jammed in to watch The Demons smash another hapless opposition

So I am not to blame for our having only 45k members. Thanks.

I never said you were, BUT you don’t want the club to grow...

And that attitude has been around for a long time

“We are a small club and will always be that.”

I have seen that written on here so many times over the past 14 years, and people wondered why i was cranky...

We represent a Big City.

I think he said 70,000 members swyl... that is a lot of growth YET,  before he hops off our lowly perch.

Unless we win 3 flags in the next five years 70k is dreaming. The main driver of membership numbers is success on the field. And sustained success. The MFC has had so little success  for half a century it is going to take a lot to get never before members.

Napkins are the trick OD... napkins, for dribblin'.

Aas long as you have your teeth OD...  you can put out a Demon smile, and chant. ?

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.
