No positional play, no specialist players (Lockett, Daicos, Flower), no man on man matchups.

 

It's become a Soccer/Basketball hybrid of boring-ness.

Good for coaches who like moving magnetic pieces on a white-board.

 

Painfull to sit and watch,, I cannot watch a whole game on TV anymore with all this congested play craap.

 

Let us all start a new competition on VFL grounds and bring back OUR game,,,  and bring back the biff.

The game suffers from not enough pure footballers. For us guys like Neale Bullen, Hannan, Harmes, et al wouldn’t go close to a game at the power clubs of the 80’s. Nowadays every club has these guys just look at the last two premiers. Add to that complete media saturation and it becomes boring. I’ve no interest in any games involving GWS, GC, Carlton, Brisbane , Saints, North, Freo , that’s almost half the league. Add to that the fixture, the bland stadiums and Foxtel and its no wonder people are switching off. It’s just a giant corporate circus with little of the romance some of us once loved. I stay interested because clubs like Sydney are so good to watch

Sadly, I feel the same way RI.

I'm not a person who will just do, as has always been done.  unless the enjoyment id there to keep going, and keep doing the same old.

 

The game these days is a visual nightmare. 

And for people who's eyesight isn't as strong as in youth,,, its very difficult to keep up with all the rotations.  And with no players playing an actual position, you can't tell at the ground, who's playing, and who's off the field.

 

Add to that, those annoying 'IN YOUR FACE' adds,,,,, like harvey norman, and it's a  'must turn off' ...  like i just did a second ago, hit the mute button, as I type on the PC.    TV going to my left, in the background, because the internet is more interesting, than the bloody footy they're dishing up, these days.

More than 20 years ago Ric Charlsworth made mention whilst being interviewed on radio that if the Germans played Aussie Rules the scoreline would be 5 goals to 3 goals.  I always remembered the comment because I thought it could make sense if the sport was played in an ultra defensive manner. 

Flooding hadn't yet happened but 'stacking the backline' was a sometimes practice especially at lower levels.  So the overall basis of the comment was a feasible one. 

Like many others,  I'm in favour of scrapping the interchange or drastically reducing the amount of rotations to about 10 per team per game.  The sport doesn't need the overuse of rotations and never did.

Interchange has turned into a way of resting players because of fatigue issues but it was never originally introduced because of that reason.  Originally,  the practice of interchange was introduced because a seemingly injured player had to go off without being able to come back on. 

So,  structure the ruling of the interchange numbers to suit the original reasoning.
