Demons' New Home Doubt

Interesting, but where does this place the plans for MFC to relocate?

Plan B anyone ?

I spose we could piggy back onto the redevelopment of Olympic Park, but my first choice is still to be at this new stadium. I think some people might be getting carried away with the success of the Victory, as i said on Demonology i still think that it's a good idea to be playing the bulk of the Victory games at a packed house of about 25-30,000 and then play the marquee matches (Sydney, Adelaide) at Telstra to get maximum attendance.

However, if the Victory really want a stadium of 40,000, then the spot that they've got atm won't do and that'll probably leave us (MFC) wandering again. The only other thought is that we take the proposed spot for ourselves and turn it into a training and fitness base, but that cost shitloads and i don't think we have it.

The State Government made a commitment to do this, and backing out would be disgraceful on their part. They should be committing to a 29,000 seat stadium with upgrade abilities to 35,000 by 2012 or whenever the Primus Dome contract finishes.

This state requires a square stadium.

I think personally that yes the stadium ought to be of the 30000 ilk anyways...why build it smaller?? its not that much diference at the start...horrendoulsy expensie to change 'after"

you do sort of get the wiff of.." how can we get out of this now " from Spring st...

they'll probably want to move it to Geelong next !!

they are crapping on if they now say its X Y and Z to build ..they must have known all along..

to increase 10-15 % of capacity is not directly 10-15% increase in costings...much of the cost is non linearly related to the specific size... . Obviosuly if its bigger ..its more.. but even if you take their ( gov ) worst case escenario...thats well within the scope ofevery other stuff up they have been involved with.

It s really not about the money...as to the desire to build it..or to complete something they comitted and promised.

I hope it still goes ahead in some similar fashion to original idea.

If it needs to grow and change ...so be it ..

This idea was rediculous from the start but that doesent mean im not upset. We should have never joined with the Storm or the Victory. The victory need a ground capable of seating 60-70000. We have seen a number of sellouts at the dome and it will only get bigger (the supporter base that is). Why build another small ground. Thats the same reason for the Storm too.

Although im upset with the gov pulling out of this i understand their reasons and there is no point building a stadium capable of seating 30ish thousand...its a waste of money. Good work gov im wit u on this 1

Gee i wish people actually knew WHERE AND WHAT our new home is....

THE NEW STADIUM IS FOR RUGBY AND SOCCER PEOPLE...NOT FOR US......

the training complex to be shared by storm..victory and ourselves is still on..and we will NOT ..i repeat..WILL NOT be using the NEW STADIUM....we will be sharing the oval that the Filth currently use...with them.....

I was under the impression that the training complex was INSIDE the proposed stadium. If the stadium's called off, are you saying that the government is still going to build us (the Melbourne Union [Victory, Storm, MFC]) a seperate training complex?

as i understood the original proposal for this structure...it was a multi use stadium configured for playing rugby /soccer...with admin and fitness facilities...thee latter were ideally to be shared by teh "TEAM MELBOURNE " members..

so I also was understanding that if not built...we dont get the new facilities..

happy to be corrected !!

Thanks D2 for that piece of wisdom.

Our training (i.e. weights room etc) and administration facilities would be in the new stadium, except for the training oval which would be shared with Collingwood

All very confusing though. Shouldn't the club make some announcement as to where it stands in all of this? After all, there's been some sort of fundraising started on the basis that we were supposed to have these faciltiies in place by our 150th year in 2008.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
