Jack Trengove

I think I heard Goody say we played our best available team yesterday and if that's right it's disappointing for Jack.  26 players played and Tyson, Jetta and Kent all out who are sort of competing for the same type of role Jack would play.

Disappointing.

He'll get his go in the next few weeks and then of course he's got a year to establish himself but it would seem he's coming from a long way back.

You can add Frost and Hibberd to that list as well, which again shows our depth and the challenge ahead for Jack to establish himself again in the side.

Is there a role for him to play?  Possibly, but I think he just needs to concentrate on being a depth player who is ready to take his chance when it's presented to him.  He's still an intelligent player who can offer us something, but the combination of injury and the addition of talent has left him in the wilderness a little.

I don't think Jack and Frosty are in competition for a spot are they but yes, you can add Hibberd, I forgot him.

Having said that there were a couple yesterday who didn't push their case so perhaps that helps Jack a little I suppose.

Sorry, I missed that bit of your post re: competing for the same spot.  Read it too quickly.

I reckon he is a certainty to get a run next week and, as you say, some of the other fringe players didn't exactly push their case for a regular spot yesterday.  Let's hope he can take his chance better than others did.

The suspense is killing me. I really want to see Trengove return to AFL level and play out a good career even with just one or two premierships, its not like he has to win the Norm Smith.

I'm glad there's the women's game to hold my attention in the meantime. Speaking of which, Jess Trengove, on a wing, that'd work. Though I doubt she'd give up her marathons. Maybe she could just be a fitness advisor for the squad, since she is also a physiotherapist and motivational coach.

24 players got significant game time after Wagner's injury. Watts comes in for one of Weed or Spencer. Then a couple of running players have to come out and the question will be who else from outside yesterday comes back in.

Viney, Jones, Oliver took up the starting inside mids yesterday. Salem played a lot of midfield, although I'd imagine come the real stuff he'd float a bit more especially if Tyson comes back in. Brayshaw mid forward. Lewis wing/half back/midfield. Bugg and Stretch ran the wings. Melksham and Vince played half back. I can't really see Trengove overtaking any of those guys although one of that group might miss out.

Vanders, ANB, Harmes and JKH played half forward flank with some midfield time amongst that group, with Harmes going down back a bit as well. That's probably the group Trenners has to get ahead of to get in to the team and then shuffle players around to find the right team balance.

Vanders was messy with the ball but tackled strongly. ANB actually played very well, used the ball cleanly most of the time. JKH found some space and linked up, he was running hard both ways. Harmes struggled to get in to the game up forward and went down back.

I hope Trenners gets a run next week. I'd be very surprised if he does well enough to get in to the round 1 side especially if Tyson gets back by then but he'll get his chance during the year I'm sure.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
