The big boy got up for 3rd ... there's a collect on the place.  Nice work Wadda

Got it going in the multi as well of course.  What a horse is Hartnell!

Full credit to Alizee though - the horse is a top rater.

Yep came from nowhere to pop up for 3rd. Great run. 4.20 is great for a place anyday.

We are in with a shot.

Yep ... they ran over 2 seconds faster in the Futurity as opposed to the CF Orr Stakes Wadda.

A truly run race where the best horse won (Alizee) And that suited Hartnell as the horse is all class.  Won the Epsom last Spring running a very slick 01:32.73 for the mile so there's still a fair bit of life in the old boy.

An 'A Day at the Races' favourite without a doubt.

You just could leave it out at that price. Like i mentioned 2 runs at 1400 Caulfield for 2 wins.....you cant get any better than that.

Good luck in The Diamond... Williams is due after some bad luck.

For the team yeah ... it's not about me.

Had a saver on 'Lyre' so got the collect ... Athiri had every chance but 4th ain't 3rd.  There were a number of other disappointments - Loving Gaby,  Catch Me,  Brooklyn Hustle & Vinicunca amongst them.  Felt sure I'd get the exacta but I'll take the win.

Athiri got a big bump in the straight from Loving Gaby who was checked badly..

And that's racing mate ... those incidents happen as a matter of course and that's the main reason that I prefer the exotics.  With racing,  nothing surprises me.

And as previously noted here,  when we do win those incidents often happen to other horses which helps us win ... again,  that's racing.

Booker wins the Oakleigh Plate - won well.  Nature Strip disappointing - another hot favourite fails to get into the finish.  Multi punters are no doubt doing their money by the truckload.

Good horse.

Will be interesting to see how Ace High goes in the last. back to his distance range now. 1 win at 1800. Paying very well for the place 4.30.

He may need the run tho..

EDIT: drifting to 5.80 now...

Hope you got on Wadda - ran well did Ace High.

Avilius the class act of course ... tracked up nicely behind Trap for Fools and won easily.

Another win for the team here ... I used Avilius as a banker for a few multi's but most fell by the wayside.  Still got 1 going so here's hoping.

I'm always suspect about the shorties in Adelaide ... most of the races are BM64's or BM70's so even the odds-on chances aren't all that good anyway.

That's where the expertise of JJ is paramount - I wouldn't bet at Morphettville otherwise.  I prefer the tips he gives where he finds a horse that can beat the favourite.  I then put a small amount to win or take a small exacta.  I turn an ok profit with his picks (generally)

And 'Behave' gets pipped by a bees nostril ... I don't how punters can ever win betting on these short-priced favourites.  Even in multi's they are a risk (and often part of another donation)

Thank goodness for the cash-out option!

As it turned out Alizee & Avilius stood above the others today whilst 'Lyre' was another standout pick following on from its last start win.  Jury well and truly out on Nature Strip,  Zousain & Tassort whilst The Autumn Sun can race a lot better.  Might have needed the run though.

We were ridding Behave home, the post couldnt come quick enough. Narrowest of margins.

Watts our strike rate looking like now? Do we move to Flemington next week?

I cashed out before the 'Behave' race as I got cold feet Wadda ... just as well too.  Multi's just aren't for me - too nerve-wracking!

And after consulting my racing bible (I keep a detailed record of all the group races run worldwide) we are indeed at Flemington next week (Australian Guineas a highlight)  Up in Sydney Winx runs around again in the Chipping Norton and the Surround Stakes is another headline act (at Randwick)

By the way,  in terms of readily available info on group racing,  my racing bible is way quicker than the internet.  Another win for 'Old-school'

Ok, well well done. Yes its great you can do that now. Yu could only ever lay off in the past which didnt always work. I ignored a 52 cashout after the first leg got up, so bad luck for me. Strike rate looking healthy.

Ok so Sydney heats up a bit. We have the Australia Cup at Flemington which is what Ace High is being aimed at. His odds are around 15 and 4 and i think he will be very competitive.

I think we start to head up to Sydney after that a bit more. (they think its their carnival, shhh) cause we own the Spring.

I like the racing up in Sydney but today the track was once again rain affected.  And I prefer to bet when the tracks are good or perhaps a Slow5.

We tend to like courses where we win so for that reason Moonee Valley & Caulfield are behind Flemington,  Randwick & Rosehill as preferred race tracks.  I'd put Sha Tin as 4th preference as the racing is truly run up there as well.  And the pools are healthy at Sha Tin.

Flemington is king but the racing is often truly run at Randwick & Rosehill (especially when the tracks are graded as good)  The rivalry factor is of no concern to me.  I like watching the best of the best run around regardless of the venue.

Zac Purton has an almost full card up at Sha Tin today and a few of his mounts offer up good each-way value.  He's also on a number of favourites and Zac can generally be expected to get a few winners.  Often gets his mounts into the finish too (which suits the exotic punters)  The tipsters up there follow him as well.

6 wins and a 3rd for Zac Purton from 8 rides so far at Sha Tin (he had a well earned cup of tea in race 7 and wasn't engaged)

And he is on the favourite in the last race ... should be able to make it 7 wins.  How good is that!

A big shout out to Tye Angland.

I had absolutely no idea about this, and never really saw anything in the press. I was wondering why Ace High had different ridders lately after Tyes association with the horse over the last few years. Perhaps because the family requested privacy, it has not been widely reported on.

The Australian Jockeys' Association has provided an update on injured jockey Tye Angland:

"As you are aware, Tye had a fall at Sha Tin, Hong Kong on Sunday 25 November following which he remained conscious throughout," the statement read.

"Tye underwent surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong where he remained in the Intensive Care Unit for two weeks. Following this, Tye was able to transfer to Sydney with the aid of a medical team.

"Since returning to Australia, Tye has undergone a second surgery for his injuries. Tye currently remains in Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.

"As a result of the fall, Tye had a fracture and dislocation of the spine as well as a spinal cord injury. The spine has been stabilised and realigned.

"Tye's doctors advise the long-term prognosis for injuries of this nature are always hard to diagnose in the early stages. However, there remains a likelihood of Tye's outcome being quadriplegic.

"His wife Erin, and the couple's three children Alexis, Addison and Rylan have been overwhelmed by the support they have received and wish to say thank you to everyone who has reached out to them.

"The family has requested their privacy as they deal with this very difficult situation."

There's a few decent races coming up at Launceston on Wednesday ... notably races 6,  8 & 9.  Damien Oliver is on a couple of fancied runners in races 8 & 9 whilst James Cummings has engaged Etymology in the $250k Launceston Cup - Race 8.

I note a DATR favourite Lamborghini is going around in the Cup. A quinella with Etymology would seem a possible strategy...

Just checked in Wadda

Found out late that Etymology was flown in last night but it was supposed to be flown in last Friday evening.  Not sure what happened there but they might have been better off saving the horse for Saturday (it was entered for the Roy Higgins Quality - race 2)

Eastender won to complete the Cups treble (Hobart,  Devonport,  Launceston) whilst Lamborghini ran 3rd.  Oliver's mount not in the finish and Etymology weakened badly.  Forgive run though.  But Eastender is worth following for the upcoming Country Cups.  It is not a bad horse and is very honest.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
