I had a few mins before the long drive in to the wedding so put a few bets on in advance and I’d agonised over Grand Slam and Young Werther, ended up being decided by one thing, well person really. Jockey. Ms Jamie Kah - she is a star!

Didnt see the race, but I had 2-4th in my first 4. Probabeel was the one I missed. What happened to Probabeel?

Damian Lane said that the horse didn't handle the track well (the race was held in driving rain)  They ran 01:39.82 which is more than 4 seconds above standard time for the mile at the Valley

So the rain that had fallen had obviously effected the track but you would have expected the conditions to suit Sir Dragonet

And so might Grandslam be a star as well ... commanding performance yesterday to win by that sort of margin (6.3 lengths) (before the rain had set in and affected the track)

We might have another genuine WFA class middle distance runner on the scene with Grandslam

Jamie Kah's first time on the horse so we'll see that combo again.  Probably now Sydney bound for the G1 riches and with our carnival all but over,  Kah, Oliver & co would be heading North as well you'd imagine

There is some fantastic racing coming up in Sydney over the next 5 weekends

5 x G1's (including the Slipper) next Saturday and over the 5 weekends 17 x G1's and 22 other Group 2 & 3 races as well.  The best of the best involved in 39 events

Great time of the year with the footy starting next weekend as well

Australian Group Racing

And here are the replays from yesterday (I'll post up Grandslam's win in the Alister Clark Stakes when it's available)

ADATR blackbooker 'Hang Man' is running in the $125k Yarra Valley Cup (R6) tomorrow ... paying 4.50 for the win but it is up against the even money favourite in 'Skyman'

But any of the top 6 in the betting can win so the exotics might be the go

Ended up having a small wager on Hang Man and it duly saluted ... got the jump on Skyman entering the straight and that was enough

Me too. I was actually looking at it for a race yesterday before it was scratched.

A handy cheque of $70k for the connections at a little known destination in the Yarra Valley (The Yarra Valley Cup)

There are group 2 & 3 races worldwide that carry that sort of prizemoney ($125k)

Hang Man is a good honest performer just shy of Listed class but there are a stack of Handicaps & Country Cups that the horse can win

A definite ADATR favourite

Vaguely remember being at the Yarra Glen races when I was an urchin ... parents were keen racegoers as were most of their friends

Must get back their soon enough ... I catch up with mates once or twice a month on Sunday arvo's these days (footy, golf, pub etc) so the country racing needs to be on the agenda as well ! ?

I got on at the $8 but with all the rain about the horse (Jungle Edge) could easily start favourite ... it swims in the wet!

The track up there could be a Heavy10 if the forecast rings true

And Gator has marked my pick (Maritana) on top ... 3 starts at Mornington for 3 wins

Yeah guy at work said they are forecasting heavy 10. Said there will be scratches all over the joint come sat morning.

Once I looked at Maritana I thought you had picked a cracker and then to get $31 for it I had to throw down.

I put both in a EW multi so fingers crossed.

Think Portland Sky offers value tonight.

Drawn well and generally starts well

I've got it in a few quinella combo's

Sisstar breaks the track record in the 955m challenge!

They could have a whole card of these sprints and it might gain a lot of interest (similar to the Flemington card of 1200m sprint races)

Wasn't on it but Masked Crusader wins the William Reid in fine style ... a cut above a crack field.  Burst through with high acceleration like a good horse

That's a big breakthrough Group 1 win ... the TJ Smith has to be on the radar now

I had the other three in a tri, which I thought was a decent shot but MC flew last Portland Sky.

Rosehill postponed

May put their Autumn back a week or integrate the races from today.  Pattern will be out of whack if they integrate though

Thought they would postpone it.

Maritana is now into $5

Yes!

I had a very busy weekend (but not a fruitful one on the punt!) but will post up some replays soon enough

Haven't seen any of the Sydney or Melbourne races yet but there were some obvious highlights amongst the 5 x Group 1's that were held

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
