Open minded salutes, I’m well deep into the beers and whisky, really wish I’d seen the $8 opening price.

Open Minded drifted to 4.50 in the end and looked the winner a fair way from home

I was on Madam Superior with Ollie on board and it looked good for a while

OM too good though

Got it at $4.20. I5s a good horse. Think it has more potential.

Need a clear head tomorrow so just the 2 glasses of Pinot here! However,  good wine doesn't give you a headache so 2 more on the cards whilst watching '3 wide no cover' (on now)

Got the quinella in the Snoano race so 2 good collects and double winnings on 'The Regiment' ... decent night as it turned out

I’m four craft beers and a few whiskeys deep so I’ll stay off the punt when in such a state. But open minded  I’ve been on for a while so watched its market. Will be sober enough by race one tomorrow ?

I wouldn't be too concerned Gorg ... I always feel very lucky when a multi salutes (they are hard to get) I had Defiant in a quinella but didn't have the 2nd horse anyway

We've still got 3 live chances and if picking winners was easy,  we'd be sqillionaires!

Got 'Leo',  Four Moves Ahead & Fabergino up so another good start ... just need to finish off well (like the Demons yesterday!)

Edit:  Criaderas gets up for 2nd but got going too late by the sounds of it

Edited by Macca

Had Leo, missed on Mallory and just missed on Indian pacific.

Got Buffalo River in the next, couldn’t look past it.

Tough Miss on Cric but strong run by the winner.

Buff went hard really early. Just held on for third.
Thought they went too early and too hard.

Looked that way and it's a long straight.  Jamie nearly always rates them well in the lead too

Who knows?  ... the horse just took off and when that happens the jockey either restrains them (which can backfire) or goes with it

At Caulfield & Moonee Valley it wins

Lunar Fox... wow. ?

Didn't see that coming!  250-1 fixed odds

Form was recently quite woeful although it did win the Sires Produce this time last year

The day has had a lot of winners in the $10+ category

Replays of the 3 Group 1's from yesterday

As it turns out the horse (Buffalo River) apparently does have a habit of taking off like that (according to a few of the pundits) Can't say I've seen it before but it is a frontrunner

And it's not like Jamie Kah to ride like that anyway ... in fact, she rates them in front better than any other jockey I've seen (in recent times)

You just don't expect that sort of thing to happen but it does happen from time to time

e.g. Twilight Payment took off at the 4 furlong mark in the cup but still managed to hold on

I'd be getting on Buffalo again but maybe not at Flemington! ?

It was more how hard it seem to go, but as you said sometimes reining them in is just as counter productive

Guy at work had the tip that this would do very well. He didn’t pass tge into along nor back it.

Said they have been trying new tactics with it and it responded well.

We are all unhappy with him today. ?

The All Star Mile final field has been decided

It's a crack field but would have liked to see Verry Elleegant,  Colette,  Kolding & Avilius included but with 2 Autumn carnivals running side by side,  we don't get to see the very best all racing against each other.

Still, there's at least 9 winning chances for the Moonee Valley version of the event (to be run on the 13th March)

And if Streets of Avalon can get to the lead and put the brakes on,  it can get into the finish

Promises to be a terrific race, all the same

Super Saturday coming up at Flemington on the weekend and a super days racing coming up at Randwick as well.  Group & Listed races aplenty along with 4 big Group 1 events.

I'm mainly playing the exotics and even the quinella's could pay well with such depth to the racing.  Quite tricky coming up with a best bet or 2 as well.  So far, nothing is jumping out at me

Value Bet (Randwick Saturday)

Race 7 No.3 North Pacific 9.00/2.50

More so the exotics and place multi,  I'm confident the horse can get into the finish and 3rd up has been primed for this race

It’s the same trainer as his sons horse and he said they are feeling good about it’s prep.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
