He was always an extremely nice, humble person. Even in primary school you knew he would become a footballer. His skills even then we're amazing, jumping over packs, he was so quick and talented even whe he was boy, I would always try to be at the other end during kick to kick as you had no chance of getting the ball otherwise.

We were Murrumbeena boys, just aquantances, not close. Amazingly when he  became the number one ticket holder, and I said what I said to him on the day, he remembered me and then made the chat about me, introducing me to Tom who I remembered from our Murrumbeena days. Robbie was a true champion on and off the field.

I was going to write about him when he passed, but found it to difficult at the time. It's still hard now because to me, he was part of the MFC's fabric. Melbourne his entire life,  and loyal always.

That he and Jimmy are not here to see our upward progression is so unfair. Oh well.....?

They're watching mate.

1. Robbie Flower saying to me in primary school to wear our Melbourne jumpers to school the next day in 1964, the week before the GF.

2. Being at said GF. (thanks mum)

3. Proudly telling my mother that a skinny kid with glasses in his first senior game would become a club champion. (Her reaction at the time was a highlight in itself ?)

4. My mother saying to me the only reason she endured the late 70s and 80s watching the Demons was to watch Robbie play. (she went every week for over 40 years, she is 90 now and still a member and watches on Foxtel )

5. 2000 elimination final come back against Carlton, my sister was worried I would have a heart attack.

6. Telling Robert Flower on the day he became the number one ticket holder, that no one deserved it more than him. (He took it over from RDB)

7. Having hope restored in that I can go to a game and we have a chance of winning.

Oh dear! I left out 1987. What an amazing year for everyone MFC that was.

Live? Q2 and Q3 against the crows in 2002.

That, or when we were flogging the Hawks and the live ladder went up at the G, showing us in 1st, late in the season.

I was at that game and i remember the sensation of realising we were leading the table after looking up at the scoreboard.

Another good memory was playing the cats at the MCG in the year of the Commonwealth games (2006 ? ) and winning a tough hard fought contest against what was a pretty good cats line up (Massive 65,000 crowd too ) 50 / 50 support for both teams.

I'm pretty sure they put this up on the screen at the end of the game when the players were walking off. 14-4 and clear on top of the ladder.  I remember it distinctly.  A lovely moment.  We lost the next 5.

The 1998 Round 2 Game versus North. The Comeback of Garry Lyon and a barnstorming performance that setup our season.

On a personal note, back in primary school, a friend of mine and I drew up a "Ron Barassi Medal" after hearing Bobby Davis on the footy panel jokingly suggested one be struck.  My friends dad wrote up a very wordy and erudite letter to accompany the medal and we sent it in to Ch7.

A few weeks later the great RDB rang my mums house - I was at a friends house - mum passed on my friends number, RDB gave me a call and we had a brief chat about Demon fortunes that year.  I do remember being fairly lost for words!

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
