Casey Scorpions vs Werribee

Featured Replies

Vince was underdone and dawes cant take a mark.

Can't wait til the real VFL begins, these practice matches hold no sway for me.

Yes, Brahshaw was good and is now doing well in the seniors, but i'd say he would have done that regardless. It's hard to gauge other players potential/progress during these second tier praccys. Bring on next week and some consistency!

Jones & Tyson play their only bad game for a year and people want to criticise them and drop Tyson!

They have the runs on the board, its up to others to step up when this rarely happens!

Song, not following your logic. If Brayshaw's performance in the VFL practice matches was good enough to get him selected then other players going well should also be considered. Can't see how you can gauge one player but not others.

I agree that these VFL practice matches are of little value and yesterdays was even less relevant because Werribee were not competitive. However what they can show is that some blokes are just not up to standard. Toumpas got a lot of the ball yesterday but he can't hit a target with a handball from 5 foot. His kicking is about 50% and he seems slow at decision making even when not under pressure. Jordie has endeavor but not much else. Gawn did not do himself any favours should have kicked 6 but could not hold a mark. Pedo was terrific in the first half Stretch was sound. But really there was no pressure. Noodle from Casey was easily BOG and Angus Scott would have been up there. I would be hesitant to rely just on yesterdays game to select for next weeks game.

I meant that Brayshaw is that extreme talent that virtually selects himself. The others, yes, they are tearing up VFL practise matches. But i wouldn't give some a look in until they are consistently tearing up the real VFL stuff.

WHITEWASH by KC from Casey

The Casey Scorpions who finished a lowly second-last in 2014, ahead only of the now defunct Bendigo Gold, finished the practice match series off on Saturday with an emphatic victory over a lacklustre Werribee Tigers to go into next Sunday's opening game with a 3 - 2 preseason record.

However, as an indicator of the season ahead, the game really provided nothing. The Tigers were a lifeless inept opposition which produced very little pressure and, as a consequence, there is very little one can say about the home side other than every player beat his opponent and did what was expected of him.

Jack Grimes marshalled the forces and, with skipper Evan Panozza, led the team brilliantly. Grimes finished the game with 30 disposals and a neat goal. The other Demon listed players also had a picnic with Jordie McKenzie, Matt Jones, Viv Michie, Aidan Riley and Jimmy Toumpas all putting their hands up for a return to AFL ranks. Likewise, the talls in Jake Spencer, Max Gawn, Jack Fitzpatrick and Cam Pedersen all had a picnic. Dean Terlich got better as the game went on and youngster Billy Stretch showed touches of brilliance for the future.

Some of the players whose disposal is often wayward in the intensity and heat of the battle at AFL level , were constantly hotting targets, indicating how much leeway their opponents were giving them.

There were good signs from the VFL contingent with newcomers James Munro, Luke Walmsley and Tom Muir all impressing and young goal sneak Angus Scott kicking three goals.

All in all, pleasing but not much of a pointer for the future because of the lack of opposition pressure which cause the match to result in a complete whitewash.

Casey Scorpions 4.1.25 612.9.82 16.10.106

Werribee 0.1.1 1.1.7 1.1.7 2.3.15

Goals Michie Scott 3 Pedersen Toumpas 2 Gawn Grimes Muir Spencer

Best Michie Grimes Toumpas Spencer Walmsley Scott Terlich

Angus Scott is one to keep an eye out this year. Sneaky small forward who loves a goal.

Who doesn't?
