Demonbracket 50 - Celebrating 50 Fruitless Years

Happy with the numbers considering it was held over 1 day rather than 2 (or more for the games that went across weekends).

Can you tell if there were similar unique votes though Adam?

Yes, but I don't bother looking as long as the vote total isn't massively increased. Not all that concerned by somebody voting once or twice but the peanut who tried to stack it by voting 150 times gave themselves away through lack of subtlety. Anyway, the quarter final votes are in and it's congratulations to the following winners:

Robert Flower 107 (65%) d. David Schwarz 57 (35%)

David Neitz 146 (89%) d. Jeff White 18 (11%)

Allen Jakovich 85 (52%) d. James McDonald 79 (48%)

Jim Stynes 128 (78%) d. Todd Viney 36 (22%)

Which leaves us with the following semi-finals, with all the bookies pre-tournament favourites still involved. Voting is open from now until 7pm Monday night, with the Grand Final to follow on Tuesday.

Robert Flower vs David Neitz

Allen Jakovich vs Jim Stynes

Loved the bonus video, Demon Apocalypse. Was a bit sad that it was 'to be continued' but realised that I had seen end before and It's not pretty

Agreed. I really miss those "Facebook Comment of the Week" videos. They were therapy for me at the time and truly the highlight of the Neeld era. They almost made the whole Neeld era worth it.

When's the DVD coming out Adam?

I miss the videos, what I don't miss is trawling the Facebook page for the comments that went along with them.

Brisbane Roar sack coach after 5 losses in 6 games this year on the back of two premiership A league cups in 12 and 13 plus coach of the year award. It's Norm Smith all over again! Maybe the curse will be transferred?

Brisbane teams can't help themselves, they love the bandwagon.

After that odd interlude into #aleaguechat it's my duty to inform you that the favourites have triumphed in the semi-final, and that the electoral commission has certified the following results

Robert Flower 122 (60%) d. David Neitz 81 (40%)
Jim Stynes 120 (59%) d. Allen Jakovich 83 (41%)
The winners of the special challenge match were The Defenders and Ray Biffin took home the 10 man over the top first round losers battle royale.
GRAND FINAL FIXTURE (vote here)
#1 seed Robert Flower vs #2 seed Jim Stynes
+ third place playoff and special challenge matches.

Nice boost in voting numbers for the semi finals.

Good fun thanks Adam.

Friends, it is my pleasure to announce that the results have been certified by our government supervisor

and that we have a winner... But first the preliminary matches:

In the Survivor Series the Brothers (James McDonald, Anthony McDonald, Gerard Healy and Greg Healy) d. The Unrelated (Glenn Lovett, Brett Lovett, David Williams and Luke Williams) by 120-43

In the Battle Royale your favourite ex-Demon at another club in 2015 was Jared Rivers with 31% of the vote from Stefan Martin (bless you all) with 25% and Scott Thompson with 17%.

The third place playoff was an absolute ball-burster, with the Plate Final almost shared as Allen Jakovich nudged David Neitz out by a score of 82-81

And the result you've all been waiting for. In the final, Robert Flower was voted your favourite Demon of the last 50 years after a narrow 83-80 victory over Jim Stynes.

Thanks everyone for your support of the tournament and your 2120 votes throughout. For the sake of probity the final results in all matchups can be seen here.

See you in January/February for a return to the fourth installment of the traditional Demonbracket format for current players only, and in November 2018 for our next 'all time' ballot #demonbracket54

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.
