Our midfield - when will it be elite?

I've gone cold on Trengove. Not enough tricks, no explosive power, no deadly boot. He's a good mark for his size and a young leader, I want more from a #2 pick. The keeping your feet rule will work in his favour

James Hird had no explosive power and no deadly boot. Sylvia does. Trengove was poor last year but let's not write off our captain just yet.

Trengove's lack of speed and explosiveness is stopping him from progressing from a serviceable player.

There are a few handy players who lack speed and explosiveness in the AFL, the current Brownlow medalist is one and a few others are in the current premiers midfield including the Norm Smith medalist. Pendles is not explosive nor is Bartel, are they just serviceable players.

I just think a lot of people have short memories and forget how good Trengove's first season and a half were.

I reckon the first thing he struggled with was when the AFL hung him out to dry for a great tackle on Dangerfield, and the second was he definitely carried some type of injury into last season. You can't convince me that a player like him who was a good kick and had reasonable pace (not explosive) lost it all at 20yo, as 'old dee' pointed out he couldn't even make the distance from 30 mts , this is a kid who was a good kick over 50.

Don't sweat it, he will be an "A" grader.

There's a reason the Crows were prepared to trade half their list to get Trengove.

He'll make it - I actually have no doubt about it.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
