AFL is giving port a handout cause they are in such a poor state, simple as that, I doubt anyone can say these were great port players hence worth such compensation.

The systems is a little floored if you are only going to pay compo based on contracts, etc.. how are the small clubs like melbourne, goldcoast etc supposed to get FA's from top sides the only thing we have to offer is $$'s for even the second string players, so in offering them $$'s they get TOP draft picks as compo. When our good players try to go to top clubs to play in a Grandfinal they do so without the $$ inducements, so the poorer clubs dont get the top draft picks. Judging Rivers to be worth only half of a round 3 draft pick seems a bit stupid seeing as he is going to play in defense for a top 4 side.

    Compo based on contracts is flawed, but by that rule Port deserved what they got.

    Chaplin & Pearce were both on 4 year contracts.

    Blame Richmond and Freo.

We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
