A lot of excitement and fan raving in that short time though! I'm sure there were at least a few people who were swayed by the thought of watching Liam in action

Me included. Seems like a distant memory now though eh.

Yeah, here's hoping he's back dragging crowds into the G next season

How about his first game against us over there?

Winning goal after the siren with the worst kick you'll see.

The knife doesn't just get stuck into this club, it gets twisted and jiggled around too.

Neitz fell into his back to give away the free kick, I remember it well.

Evidence:

There's zero doubt in my mind he was robbed that year, from memory didn't they used to give a car to keep back then?

Better than any mark I have seen by a Melbourne player since (although I expect Howie to give it a run).

It's always saddened me that he left, I think we missed out on having a genuine career superstar there. His move back home made him half the footballer he was at the Dees. I hope if his son does get good enough to be an AFL player that he chooses us.

Its weird thinking he played more games at Freo! I cant really remember him playing in a Freo jumper.

His football was 100 times better at the Dee's! Was sad too see him move west.

I thought that too and checked his stats. Yep, he did play 131 games with Freo. BUT we got the best of him didn't we? That Collingwood game had to be seen to be believed.

Yes, very foolish or clumsy of Neitz. He should have stayed in his forward zone. Jeff had a wry smile as if to thank him. Just forming a pack forcing a ball up would have seen the siren blow. There were only a few seconds left when the free was given. Never mind, I still haven't seen a Demon victory over here in Perth but I'll be there tonight urging the boys on.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
