Pretty simple process though isn't it? There is a lot more responsibility and requirement playing off half back. After all your talk about Watts needing a real mean streak it doesn't sound like you enjoy the physical side of footy much.

You're on your own thinking it's easier to play forward pocket than on the half back line. Let's just leave it at that.

On the two or three occasions a game you get delivered a pass lace out or receive a crumb directly at the feet of the full forward, sure it's a walk in the park.

For the other 98 minutes it's a taxing, spirit sapping struggle to lead, present, double back, get crunched, get up, tackle and harrass over and over again with about the only reward a punch in the back of the head or a nasty back pocket's stops being raked against your heels.

Yep, real easy.

all you need to do is look at the paper tomorrow morning and look at all the forward pockets and see how many have made this easy position their own -Milne ? Ballantyne ?

Hah I can accept that, as I said it is obviously personal opinion. Bit rich coming from you though isn't it? Keep on pushing your agenda when people aren't in agreement mate.

Fair enough, all in the eye of the observer/player of course.

Just out of interest do you play at the moment rpfc?

On a Thursday night I go to bed and dream about playing every position of every Melbourne footballer against quality opposition. Alas by the end of the weekend the Thursday night dreams bear no resemblance to reality.(I will say my dreams are crying out for a decent forward pocket)

Well I have never played AFL footy and it is clearly a different game to club level. But these days at the top level you very rarely get coaches playing someone in a permanent pocket role because of the need for so many midfield rotations, so it isn't really a true indicator.

Correct. Milne, Betts, Ballantyne and Rioli (although he plays a broader role than the others) are the only players you could say have 'made it' as permanent small forwards.

Mate, if you're going to say something so clearly at odds with reality, expect to be called out on it.

At odds with your reality, which seems pretty warped sometimes. Just voicing my opinion, isn't that what this forum is for?

I think you are getting excited by the fact that you are on the majority side for once.

How about continue a pointless discussion, because there is nothing we can do! Wait and trust in Neeld and co - that is the only option.

HBF is the easiest place to play.

What position is easier?

For some teams sure, but my point (that you missed or decided to not address) was that for Melbourne that is NOT an easy position, especially given we're the 3rd worst team in the AFL for defensive inside 50s.

No. He's not.

You're quoting your own opinion as fact again RR, very bad habit of yours.

Plenty of footy down there.

What position is easier in the current Melbourne side? When you are getting pummelled and the ball never comes forward - being a forward is tougher with less exposure to the sherrin.

HBF is always easier.

CHF. The toughest place to play.

There are no EASY positions. Have you watched footy since 1979?

He said it was EASIER. He didn't say it was EASY.

Still don't think being on the forefront of the most under siege defence in the AFL is the "EASIEST" position around.

Stuie doesn't do nuance unfortunately.

Lol... Coming from the guy who ignores posts that counter his loose footed arguments then tries to misquote and pass off his opinons as facts by sheer weight of numbers,

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
