Who will be our elite 5 for the 2014 Demon flag?

If Grimes and Tapscott can remain relatively injury free, then I would say they would be right up there. Maybe not elite, but they have the abilities to become very very good. Before the events of the last few days I would have thrown Jurrah in there, but at the moment there is clearly a big question mark over his head as to whether he'll even play again. Trengove and Watts I think (and hope!) will become consistent AA players within 5 years, and I think Frawley is already the best at his position in the league.

I'm looking forward to watching Jones and hoping that he improves, but I don't think he will become 'elite'. I think he will be a very good player and will always be an important part of our team, but never our most valuable player.

No comment on the likes of Viney or Clark yet, since JV still hasn't played an AFL game, and Clark hasn't been seen at FF in a Dees jumper yet.

If we say that a player will retire at 31-32 (I know thats a huge generalisation but play along) in 4 years time we will have lost Green, Jamar, Davey, Maloney, Macdonald and Rivers. Sylvia and Martin will be around 30, in the so called twlight of there years. But in 4 years the list of players between 25-28 is huge, Clark Jones Garland Bail Petterd Frawley Jurrah Grimes Mckenzie Strauss Howe. An there is more that will be knocking on the door at 24 yrs old, Watts Gysberts Blease Tappscott Trengrove.

There is 16 players who in my opinion have the ability and can play together for 4 years and they will all still be between 24 and 28 years old. Add a few quality kids and maybe another trade or 2 and we are looking at a quality team

And that is only in 4 years, I think our "premership window" can start to crack open in 3 years but may last a while, realisticly we should be looking more towards 2016-2020 IMO.

Elite?

Only Trengove and Frawley for mine... and if we're being honest... Frawley can be the best defender, and that's still not "elite." Depending on your definition of the word.

I almost agree with you DD.

There at present is no one who is shaping as Elite.

As for 2014, we will struggle to be out of the bottom half by 2014

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
