Beat me to it Macca. Great song and a great show.

Here's a few from Zero 7, featuring Sia on Destiny

It's been a bad few moinths for bass players, first this gentleman (Jack Bruce) and just in the past week or so, Free's Andy Fraser (see my post in the Nuggets thread). Most remember Jack for his blues and rock and most particularly for Cream, but he was a very accomplished jazz musician...

Macca, thanks for that, it reminds me so much of an early George Benson, brings back a lot of great memories of the 70's and early 80's when I was in my prime. Life seemed so simple back then, you could just lay back and listen to this guitar music for hours without a worry in the world then call up a few mates and head out for a big night. Doesn't happen these days.

Ronny Jordan was almost certainly influenced by George Benson but he had his own distinct style all the same ... I only discovered him a few years ago when I got back into listening to jazz a lot more ... died young (last year) early 50's ... too young really.

I don't like being too pushy with music but he was and still is a favourite of mine.

Like a lot of artists, they can often be an acquired taste and need multiple listens to really appreciate ... Ronny Jordan was one of those artists. Anyway, while I'm here, here's the Miles Davis version of 'So What' followed by 'A Kind of Blue'

Jazz is perfectly suited to late Saturday nights and Sundays ... for whatever reason, it just works.

"So What" So Good!

I like the way a number of the muso's (including Miles) trot off and have a ciggie - during the song! Classic.

I really like 'A Kind of Blue' too ... it's taken about a dozen listens but not only is the song a great one but it really shows off Davis' talent with the trumpet.

Ok, a quick one before I head off to the Casey v Collingwood prelude to the main game... Chet Baker's brilliant version of Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue"...

Discovered another new artist recently - Hiromi Euhara

Here's a profile of her album 'Alive' on Allmusic.com

Favourite track for me is 'Seeker' which can be found in full here Hiromi - Seeker (accompanied with Contrabass guitarist & Drummer) It's a much more fuller version of the song than the youtube clip below - I like both but prefer the fuller version.

A couple from 'Max Sedgley'

His music is described as Electronica/Funk but there are heavy shades of acid jazz and a bit of nu-jazz in there as well - to my ears anyway!

Anyway, here's "Something Special" (with Tasita D'mour on lead vocals) followed by the more mellow "Slowly" (featuring Z-Star on lead vocals)

Here's a couple of upbeat tracks I came across whilst listening to Jazz24.org

The 2nd link sees the track 'Zigaboogaloo' by "Nicholas Payton" cut short at the end but the full song can be heard here

@Macca, just noticed that Chuck Loeb passed away recently...

A bit of a shock really, was looking for something else and a piece in memory came up...

That is sad news rjay ... one of my favourite jazz guitarists.  Another musician to be taken by cancer.

'The Music Inside' is a track of his that I never tire of ... at his best on that one.

RIP Chuck Loeb ... his music will always live on.

Here's 'The Music Inside' & 'Blue Kiss' ...

macca - if you get a chance - The Jazz Party is playing at the Caravan on Friday night. The lovechild of Darcy McNulty  - ex Clairy Browne and the banging Raquettes.

Harry Angus (Cat Empire) and Emma Lubitz (Tinpan Orange) are also playing with the band.

Should be a great gig.

Began a bit of a jazz odyssey last year. I found you sort of have to let the music wash over you rather than listen to actively like pop or rock. I also enjoyed going into record shops and picking up CD's without really knowing what I was going to find - just looking at the personnel and knowing who I liked. And there is really too much to every really get through. They were seriously prolific musicians back then.

The first person I really looked into was Bill Evans - I was immediately drawn to the piano in Blue in Green on Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. (Bill Evans famously complained about the lack of credit for what was largely his composition. I believe in place of royalties, Davis offered him a $20 note he had in his wallet.)

Evans was a chronic alcoholic and drug user, whose life was described as the "longest suicide note in history". Like a lot of white rappers these days (who are far less talented) he faced a lot of criticism from black audiences, who felt he was intruding on their own art form. But ultimately, he was one of the very greatest and distinctive jazz pianists from a golden era and made a very significant contribution.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
