You're right up with the scene 'nb'... Good on ya!

Jeff always had a great voice, I'm assuming his voice has held up over time yeah?

The voice is still ok.

The antics - unchanged.

I have very eclectic taste in music but don't think I delve quite as wide as Hardtack.

I go to about 1-2 gigs a week - new stuff and old.

Very little I won't go and see. ( i draw the line at boys bands such as one direction !).

I go to the caravan club a lot ( it is about 2km from me) and it always has very interesting stuff on - I mentioned I saw Pokey Lafarge - I had never heard of him but we had nothing on and i liked his name and the look of him on the website - my girlfriend even took her own car as she knew nothing about him and was sure she would leave early. We were blown away - best gig of the year.

Seeing Steve Poltz and Ryan Adams I know pretty much zip about either of them.

Seeing Dave Graney soon and trying to coax Hardtack on coming down to see him !

A couple from Stone Temple Pilots (from their 2013 album 'High Rise)

Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) replaced Scott Weiland in lead vocals ... to each his own but I reckon it is still a great sound.

Yeah he wasn't bad but there was always something a bit artificial about him, a bit like me actually!

I'm an unabashed Linkin Park fan so I like anything that Chester does.

If anyone gets a chance in the future ( as the tour just finished) - Courtney Barnett is great live - she absolutely rocked the forum.

Max morphed into Robert Crumb, who along with Ralph Steadman, is one of my graphite wielding heroes.

Deep Purple with "Black Night" (and the story behind the origins of the song)

My favourite Tom Waits song is The Piano Has Been Drinking. Funny, entertaining and just a little bit tragic. The great man is an enigma.

I caught some more good songs on rage the other night. There's some great music out at the moment, I probably should watch it more often.

The Foals song does have a film clip, but it's explicit, so I'll just link it.

Ross Hannaford is quite ill and there were two benefit concerts last weekend at the Memo music hall in Melbourne - the who's who came out to play to help defray his medical bills.

Hosted by Brian Nankervis - Paul Kelly, Black Sorrows, Linda Bull, Wilbur Wilde, Phil Rudd, the rest of the Daddy Cool but to name a few.

Ross Hannaford opened the show and looked very frail but there was a wonderful outpouring of emotion for him.

The highlight was probably Joe Camilleri - gee he gives when he performs. Disappointment - Ross Wilson - really acted like he didnt want to be there.

( at the table next to me were half of Sherbert - I managed to keep myself from throwing my panties at them)

Unfortunately I couldn't get along, but I would have thought that the highlight would have been when Mr Hannaford himself got up and played all resplendent in orange.

He was resplendent in orange - and many of us in the audience also wore orange in support.

On another note - Do you know of Steven Poltz ?

We need a complete and unadulterated review of the gig !

Well, I had better not write it in that case :-)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
