West; out the door?

There must be few of our assistant coaches who are hearing foot steps with the firing of Bailey.

If we get an experienced senior coach, the blood will surely spill, so you can't blame West for putting up his hand. But... Surely the Dogs would not entertain the idea of West for a senior coaching role...

Assuming he doesn't get the role, how will his public declaration of his desire to '"get back to the club he played with for 19 years" be perceived by our club. It's like saying "I love you, 'till someone better comes along!"

I doubt any (except Todd) will be there in 2012.

Yeh, you're probably right. If the assistant coaches know that, we're in for an ugly finish to this season.

I reckon they'd want to go out with a bang, to help them claim their next gig...

Exactly, same reason why a player who believes he won't be retained would give it his all in the last few rounds.

I reckon there'll be very few retained when the new coach comes in, you'd think he'd want to bring in his own people. It'd be a shame to see West go, but I have no problems with former players from other clubs saying they harbour ambitions to return, if you play as long as West did at the Doggies you can understand the romantic idea.

West going back to the Westies is the same as Todd Viney returning to Melbourne.

Once Bailey got the sack all positions are up for grabs...West maybe kept if he is the best at his job.

I see no problem.

Yeah, agree with all of that. Was just noting that he's put his knackers on the line a bit with that statement. Mustn't want to stay.

Scott may well be happy at Melbourne, i hope he is, but when a senior Coach job comes along that can change a lot of things quickly.

As soon as he arrived I knew Scott West would return to the Western Bulldogs.

No surprise here.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
