In case you were wondering about Colin Sylvia ...

The horror of it all is that we have had a club culture (coaches and committee) that has continuously accepted this level of mediocrity

Can you name the people who actually accept mediocrity? Its the sort of hot air thats posted on this site as a lame proxy to actually dealing with the issues. Its a lovely ring to it. Sounds hollow too.

And getting rid of Sylvia does not change the Club culture?

Good luck with coping with the horror of it all.

Some clubs are rubbing their hands at the prospect of Col becoming available, why because they know that with the right coach he can far exceed anything he has done to date.

Would be unhappy if he is not a Dee next year.

Absolutely must keep. I am pleased that Col came out and said he definitely wanted to stay at the Dees. Get a deal sorted now.

Our list no longer requires a major overhaul, we just need subtle changes to fill the gaps, but we also need to keep as many of our older players as possible (who play regular games, of course) to protect our kids. We all know Sylvia's strengths and weaknesses, he can be a match winner but he can also be fairly poor. I always thought though that we'd see the best of Sylvia when he wasn't one of our top 3 players, and when our current quality kids finally mature (ie Scully, Trengove, Watts etc) then Sylvia's true value will be shown. To me he's an 'icing on the cake type', not someone who provides the grunt work like McKenzie, Moloney, Jones etc.

This is a summary of Colin's stats over the period of time he's been with us, they are about 10% down on the previous two years.

When he's hot he's hot, when he's not he's not. He is a very good player and hopefully the new coach will get the best out of him. It looks from this article that he will re sign so let's hope he can prove to be the player we know he can be.

Looking at those statistics, while his disposal numbers are down about 10% from last year or 2 possessions a game, he is kicking 0.2 goals more a game (around 20% more than last ) and getting 1.2 more tackles per game (around 20% more than last year). This indicates he has had in many ways a similar season to last year. In my opinion Sylvia is one of few must keeps on our list. As our side improves, Sylvia will become an elite player of the competition. I think he actually plays his best football when he spends more time across half forward, as evident in his games against Richmond and Collingwood this year. The fact that people on this site would entertain the thought of trading him is ludicrous. He is clearly worth the $500,000 if that is what we are prepared to offer Scully, who at this stage has far more weaknesses as a footballer than Sylvia.

Also indicative of less time in the midfield this year, as McKenzie, Gysberts, Trengove et al begin to spend more time in there.

People also rate his inside 50's, score assists, and hard ball gets which seem very high this year, alot more than sheer disposals, also as is said tackling seems up
