Pies ponder topend tank

******COLLINGWOOD coach Mick Malthouse says the potential Round 24 blockbuster between Geelong and the Magpies could end up a total fizzer. Malthouse said yesterday he was not concerned about finishing on top of the ladder and more interested in ensuring his players were fit and rested for finals.

He suspected Geelong might enter the game with a similar philosophy, which means a much-anticipated contest may end up a stalemate between sides well below full strength.******

So Micky...its all very well if youre on top of things to MANAGE your team selction for best club benefit...but not if you're on the bottom ??

Such sanctimonious hypocrisy !!!! Dont do as I do......etc..etc.

I didn't realise MM had said anything about tanking...

I do know that in 2005, the Magpies did all they could to not win.

Completely different. Why would you risk somebody that it's 100% the week before the finals, when you are already locked into position??

Strange thread

Freo did the same thing against Hawthorn, copped a flogging and nobody cares.

A premeditated excuse for their Round 24 loss to Geelong.

I disagree completely. Both circumstances youre manioulating a team sheet to benefit an outcome. Yes the outcomes are chalk and cheese but they are both different to what you might expect with full sheets.

Difference being collingwood won't be trying to lose just not doing all they can to win. Big big difference. i

semantics surely.... Bet the bookies would think so

But he's suggesting he may plan to not go for the Win at all costs. But to protect his interests his priority.

The only outcome you they will benefit will be that they don't injure players that are assured of a game next week. They could still very well win the game.

This place is becoming less and less logical by the day, maybe we all can't wait for the season to end. We are rubbish and the pain is getting to people's heads. It's like reading the comments on the MFC facebook page - just complete rubbish 95% of the time.

BRING ON OCTOBER (and a holiday outside the country for Grand Final day!)

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
