Move one? I'm not fussed.

The argument was over a player's ability to adjust to AFL level of intensity based on a certain amount of exposure.

Pretty simple concept in isolation.

We don't agree, but based on your track record Thomo, I don't think it's likely we will.

I often don't agree with things you post on this forum.

Moving on...

Anyone see Garry Lyon's breakdown of his running on Footy Classified?

What a freak.

I summed it up in the latest Scully thread, it was a rubbish example IMO.

Bate can hold a grab and he can run to the right spots .

he has been a target for us when our forwards stand around like spectators and he can kick a goal from 50 .

Beware the revenge of the bloodnut !

With all respect to you Captain Jack, and Matty Bate, I cannot remember him taking a contested mark. He actually struggles to take an overhead mark uncontested, particularly on a fast lead, or if he is under any contested pressure. He is able to create a forward presence in attack, largely as a link, and is a beautiful set shot kick, and pretty good kick on the run, and good handballer. He has no right foot though, and is just half a yard slow for today's game. It may be becoming too late for him to improve on his deficits, but let's hope not. His stats this year haven't been good when he has played, and this is reflected in him being at Casey. I hope he finds a way back in.

Indeed. As you highlighted in the other thread, it took an eternity for the ball to eventually get down the other end. Scully pretty much stayed central corridor and jogged down watching the ball move around and switch, before eventually his opponent floating off him and found himself free inside 50 with the ball. Hardly gut busting running. Poor example.

I was more concentrating on his cruising speed which kept him in every contest, even though he wasn't going flat out.

You're right that it wasn't the best example, but I still thought you could take something from it.

Re: Bate, he's a trier, but the bloke just has far too many limitations.

They limit his scope for improvement, and based on that, he no longer has a future at the club in my opinion.

Trade bait.

And it looks like I forgot what the thread was about & changed it to Scully!

Back to Strauss...

He needs to play this week.

I think if Bartram comes back, Nicholson will have to be the unfortunate one.

Strauss' development is more important because of what he can offer.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
