The media and supporter hyping of Melbourne was always ridiculously over the top

If we had the choice to swap bailey for Roos right now, I doubt one melbourne person would say No.

What? Roos won just ONE flag with an incredibly good list, playing a negative style that would put you to sleep.

No thanks.

If the club is going to replace DB, they need someone fresh out of the game and definitely someone who has a premiership medallion.

yep you're right, losing by a point is the same as losing by 50, finsihing ninth is the same as finishing last, there is no such thing as a good loss even if it is to the premiers when Petterd drops a mark in the square in the last 2 seconds. You make my head hurt.

C & B You have brighened my day.

At last someone agrees with me.

Wish I was then I would not remember last night

let me ask you ask a question: at the end of last night's match how did you feel compared to how you felt when we lost to the pies by a point? Did you feel exactly the same or was one worse than the other? but yeah there's no such thing as a good loss yeah thanks for playing mate

Why are you implying I suggested that 'losing by a point is the same as losing by 50, finsihing ninth is the same as finishing last, there is no such thing as a good loss even if it is to the premiers when Petterd drops a mark in the square in the last 2 seconds'?

Not only did I never make any of those assertions, I don't even think those things are accurate.

The very fact that there is such a thing as a 'good loss' is why, coming into the season, my view was that while I thought we would improve on 2010 I didn't buy into the finals bandwagon.

Sorry Rogue but I am not sure what you are telling me!

Are you saying there is such a thing as a "good Loss" ?

Sorry for the delay C & B been out buying some more Single Malt.

Answer: just as frustrated it just took longer to get to the loss.

Yes.

Whether you want to use 'good' and 'bad' or some other descriptions, there are shades of grey.

The loss versus WCE on Thursday night was worse than the loss versus Collingwood last year by one point.

Are you saying that there's no qualitative difference between losses, and that all are equally as bad?

(If you say yes, note that you also seem logically compelled to say that all wins are the same, whether it's against Gold Coast or Collingwood, home or away, etc).

I don't think pre-season hype is the reason people around here are so dissappointed. I think if any expectation pre-season was to blame it was the general expectation that the Weagles would be down the bottom again. Even though a lot of people on here are now talking them up at the beginning of the season a lot of people pencilled this one in as a win (including myself) very early as we, like most of the footy world, thought the Eagles had been so terrible last year and so little had changed that they would be terrible again...

Yes they have improved, but they are not a top 4 side yet, and to get flogged in such an insipid pathetic way was a fair step backwards from every game last year except the Hawthorn round 1. Even in the pathetic effort against the Weagles last year we were all square at half time! So while I think you are not accepting last nights performance Cudi, I think by placing this thread at this time you are implying that this win was expected, therefore not nescessarily as terrible, disgusting, insipid, tragic and pathetic as it actually was.

Regardless of where we were to finish this year in anyone's mind, losing to last years Spooners so badly is never a good look, especially for a team that should be improving!

Just wanted to point out that I didn't start this thread, I've just commented on it.

As for Thursday's game being a fair step backwards, I think the entire season has been poor. (I said this before the WCE game). We may have won 2.5, but we've played very poorly.
