Raul Ibanez, it doesn't get much more clutch than that!

Raul Ibanez, it doesn't get much more clutch than that!

Yeah damn fine ........the efforts of Seth Smith and Coco Crisp for the A's were terrific as well .

Who do you see winning the divisional series from here ?

I'm hoping that St Louis , Baltimore , Oakland and Cincinnati get through . Big ask for the Orioles though ya neva know .

Those Yankees fans booing A-Rod had better not cheer when he hits a home run.

Ibanez does it again !

Bloody foxtel. Left the room for a moment, came back and the soccer was on - I assumed Detroit had won it and they switched over.

The Giants were big winners over the Cardinals in Game 7 of the NLCS, meaning that the World Series is between Detroit and San Francisco. Should be an interesting series; my tip: Detroit in 6.

Amazing!

San Fran back from 2-0 down away at Cincinatti to win 3-2.

Down 3-1 to St Louis with a deciding game in S.L.

Win the last three again to progress.

Still can't go past Detroit. Detroit in 5.

Verlander may well pitch in games 1, 4 and 7 (or at least that is Justin's wish) . More likely he pitches in game's 1 and 5 . If his form holds up its Detroit in 7 for mine .

ESPN radio are covering all the games for those without Foxtel . Depending on your type of mobile phone , ESPN radio is quite accessible ... http://espn.go.com/espnradio/

Wow

I cannot stand the references to Moneyball in the AFL.

Neeld has used it aswell.

It doesn't transfer over well. Neither the measurements, nor the value aspect.

AFL isn't an individualised sport and it doesn't have concrete, transferable contracts that are the underpinnings of this idea/theory/religion/thewaythecubswillfinallywinapennant.

The Blue Jays have reportedly acquired Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson and John Buck in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Henderson Alvarez, Josh Nicolino and Adeiny Hechavarria. One of the biggest trades I've ever seen the Jays do... today is a good day.

  • 2 weeks later...

Melky Cabrera to the Jays too!

You have had a very good off season !

Our division is gonna be a bun fight . Only hope the Red Sox get their mojo back :)

Alright, the season's underway! Who's your prediction for the 2013 World Series Champs?

I like what the Jays have done in the offseason, but I find it hard to go past the Tigers. There's lots of good teams going around though...should make for an interesting season!

I was going to say when you posted that question the A's are no chance. They have flown out of the blocks 6-2, playing the lowly Angels at the minute and doing it easy.

All I know right now is that our division is gonna be an absolute bunfight. The Red Sox have started with a few wins.

Yep, good start by Oakland (now 7-2) . The Braves have started well.(8-1) Washington might do ok. There are so many in with a chance.

Yea Nationals have been building for a couple of years, interesting to see how they go.

What a disgrace the Marlins are, I cannot believe the state of the team/club, Loria is the worst owner in team sports.

On holiday in the US at the moment and saw the Mets/Yankees at Citi Field the other day. I was backing the Mets as I always back the underdog (probably should have gone for the more successful side) and surprisingly they won 2-1! It was pretty entertaining and some guy whose name I can't remember hit a nice homer.

Big news on the PED controversy ...

... MLB seeks to suspend A-Rod, Braun

Major League Baseball will seek to suspend about 20 players connected to the Miami-area clinic at the heart of an ongoing performance-enhancing drug scandal, including Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun, possibly within the next few weeks,

The A-Rod story is just a sad and tragic one now. It's all about the money, sports politics, lies, denial etc, etc. What a mess. It seems there's just been a total disregard of the drugs policy by a number of players. They've really got to lift the 50 game ban for a first offence to a couple of seasons. With so much money at stake though, you wonder if any sort of penalty will act as a deterrent.

... Brennan: Alex Rodriguez like the party guest who won't leave

A-Rod previously admitted to doping from 2001 to 2003, making him a repeat offender. Continuing to fight his banishment means that details of his alleged drug use will almost certainly come out, but that's the risk he wants to take to keep playing, and to keep collecting his huge salary.

He had company in his misery Monday. But among all the players who were suspended, A-Rod's is the most important name. At 38, having had surgery on both hips, this 211-game suspension nearly takes him to his 40th birthday. At his age, and with his health record, it is tantamount to a lifetime ban. If we know that, he knows it, which is undoubtedly another reason for him to fight, regardless of whether he ultimately loses.

Things are coming right down to the wire in the National League Central division (although the 2 teams that miss out on winning that division could easily win wild-card spots. The Dodgers have won their division and the Red Sox have clinched a playoff spot (most probably the division as well) It's also looking good for the Braves, Oakland and Detroit.

Here are the divisional standings whilst the battle for the 2 wild-card spots in the American League has 6 genuine contenders ... Wild-card standings

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
