McCarthy is too QB-centric.  He was the same at GB but because Rodgers was so good, it always looked like it might work

And it did work early (SB win) and then we'd get close but ultimately our all-round game (lack of) got found out

And I'm not sure that Prescott is as good as Rodgers so it is a flawed strategy

To me it's when it gets to crunch time or the big moments.  McCarthy leans on the QB but here lies the problem, the opposition know it so the bluff is taken out

Dallas passing yards was 3rd in the league and they were 14th for rushing

Run defence was 16th and passing defence was 5th

So not too shabby but do SB winning teams lie mid table on rushing & run defence?  You'd maybe expect at least top 10 for both categories in order to win big

By contrast, the 49ers are 3rd in rushing and 3rd best on run defence.  Passing yards 6th & pass defence 14th

Tactical aspect of the game very important. Run game crucial (for e.g Ravens run defence were a brick wall just now against Texans) You have to have a plan fit for purpose. no arguments there.

but you have to heart for the battle as well. The Cowboys are feeble when it comes to ticker. as soon the game isn't going their way, they fold. It's been happening for years. And McCarthy won't change it at this stage.

P.S. are you feeling confident? Rolling the powder puff cowboys is one thing, shutting down Purdy and co is another thing entirely. I can't see anything other than 49ers win here.

Fair enough

The Ravens were excellent today and completely dismantled Houston.  Tougher next week vs KC or the Bills, but they're looking good

Packers get a 3 pointer on the first drive of the game.  Not bad we're going to need TD's against this opposition

Think the Packers will take this start. Looking calm.

Niners haven't settled yet. Playcalling not suiting the weather.

Fundamental errors, Packers taking their chances. A score here would really send a message

2 redzone moments for GB for 3 points (as opposed to a possible 14 points)

Your run defence held firm

And GB don't have the push-tush play!

49er defence has come up with 2 red zone stops. Huge.

and while I understand the need for TD's i would have taken the 3 points there.

On the road and in the playoffs, you've got to go for it and then back in your defence to make a stop with the 49ers having to go 86 yards for a TD

Only trouble was that we couldn't stop them!

What a throw from Love. Very few in the league could make that especially in this weather

superb 49er red zone defence

defence wins championships.

Finally got some good pressure on Love.

It's gonna be a hard game, who can limit more damage in the red zone?

Don't know what is happening with Deebo, no report yet.

Deebo questionable but looking more like out. Huge blow as even when he doesn't have the ball he's useful running motions and decoy plays.

A blocked field goal attempt could be telling (or not)

49ers get the ball to start the 2nd half so GB will need to hold them out again

The difference so far has been the 49ers redzone defence.  Packers need to find a way through

Excellent block from Wooden on the line, gives the Packers a lift in a very tough game.

For the Niners I thought Shanahan was too cagey on that drive and looked scared of giving the ball back. That's the time to take a risk.

wow. stone wall pass interference call sets up the TD and its game on.

Brutal PI and Ambrey Thomas has been doing it all night. Love finds Melton in the endzone from 20 yards. They're in this with a huge chance now.

Was just about to comment on the 49ers run and then it emerges big time.  Looked a bit too easy too

And now a fumble recovered after an excellent run back!  Lucky

Poor throw by Love there.  Timing to the WR was out.  Still, you often have to take risks to win

Another throw where Love's timing was out.  Could have been an interception

49ers get the ball back with 13 minutes to play

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
