Bennell finally gets some luck.

bartram is doing a good job too

Won the quarter, but it's the dogs at half time.

Demons 3.9 - 27

Dogs 5.5 - 35

We probably deserve to be in this game. All the Dogs need is a 10-15 minute passage where their forwards start working properly and they'll kick away. That said, many the KPI are in our favour. Touches particularly.

In our bests? Trengove (18) Scully (16) and Grimes (14) had fantastic first halves. Some of the older heads bobbed up here and there. I can't tell but it seems like Bruce might be playing ok. Davey doing a bit without owning the game. Frawley playing well despite a few mistakes. Rivers seems to be doing a bit too, though the weather is probably helping him.

The Demons-Dogs shootout hasn't happened, but only because of the weather and not for lack of effort!

Half time

3.9 Dees 5.5 Bullflogs

What a waste..

The youngins' Sculgove our best players..that speaks volumes to me.

We're still in it tho.. somehow. If Sly Green Dav Molly J-mac Johnno and other seniors get their sh!t together, we might stay in it.

1st goal after 1/2 time is imperative.

EDIT: Grimes at only 14 possies there MM.. he's been ok

So Bate lifted? He'll need to if we're to win.

The player who needs to come into the game? Sylvia. He's been poor. Maybe give him a run through the midfield? Give the forwards more space to move?

Can someone let us know what's happening in the ruck? What game time is Jamar getting, and where? Has he gone forward? How much time has PJ played?

This weather sucks. We get one Friday night game and it's pouring. Bloody hell.

The air is moist so I can just imagine how bad the ground and ball are.

We've got nobody to blame but ourselves for being behind. We've missed shots on goal that we should have got. Lynden Dunn is enemy of the state number one.

It took us a while but I think we realise now that we can't bomb it long in these conditions, despite the morons around me yelling "kick it long" at every opportunity and cheering for bombs that end up with the opposition.

Let's hope we continue to move it well by hand.

Scullgove are freaking awesome and Bennell's goal was surely goal of the year thus far.

Here is to a better second half. Go Dees!

Jamar's rucked most of the match with PJ pinch hitting for short periods. Too hard to know what's happening off the ball on TV, but I don't get the impression either of them have spent any significant time forward.

PJ is a wasted inclusion in these conditions. Should have gone another small like Jetta.

blame that goal on bennell... thinks he is taking a stroll in the park

Our defence, and many of our midfielders are keeping us in this game.

Our forwards sound like they're playing 2008 footy. Sylvia getting smashed by Morris.

We just need a couple of inspirational players forward. I reckon Sylvia has to be moved up the ground to get his hand on the ball.

Thanks for that.

Yup. Just one more nippy running player. Interesting though that we dropped a defender this week, but the defence has been solid.

How's McKenzie playing?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
