We should call it the Queen's Club Pack and have it grant access to a Brisbane game down here, as well as the Gold Coast team next year (so you've got both Queensland teams), with the addition of the Queen's Birthday blockbuster vs Collingwood as the marquee match of the package. Include a standard deck of 52 Melbourne-themed playing cards and sell it for whatever price the Club sees fit.

I'd buy it just for the pack of cards.

From a marketing perspective "the money is always in the mailing list" then it all comes down to conversion.

I'm tipping ever half smart club in the league will be doing this over the next few years - in some way, shape or form.

I agree ... This idea could be used in many positive ways.

Yeh, I think the mailing list is pretty inconsequential in this case. We have the best coverage and conversion for our supporter base of all clubs in the AFL. We just don't have the sheer numbers of supporters. The main purposes of a 3 game or 1 game membership are to generate interest in strategic games (whether because they are marquee or low crowd drawing) and mainly to inflate the number of members you have. Higher membership numbers gives more "influence" at AFL headquarters, more sponsorship bucks and more likelihood of better TV allotment, etc.... Also, having supporters as members gives the opportunity to positively influence and up-sell.

It is a good idea, especially if you have a young family, or can only make it on Saturdays or something like that.

For example, if you included the QB match in the package and two Saturday games (think we only have 2 home Sat games left) it can be used to boost the crowd figures for the eagles match, while increasing the dees supporter prescence against big drawing crowds Collingwood and Carlton..

We had a 3 game membership last year and we have a 3 game "Women of Melbourne" membership this year.

It is a good idea, especially if you have a young family, or can only make it on Saturdays or something like that.

On the flipside, these memberships are only a few dollars cheaper than the standard entry price to matches (if memory serves). As such, stipulating games it gets you entry into wouldn't be a big selling point for many I wouldn't have thought.

That's why you need an extra little gimmick like some merchandise or something.

Not pouring sh!t on the cards idea as such - well done for coming up with something left field - but isn't a card with designated pictures for each type fairly redundant? Most games involving cards require the people you're playing against not to know what's in your hand - Poker is a prime example but even silly games like Go Fish are the same. Would take away from the bluffing aspect somewhat when everyone can see what cards you're holding.

I envisioned the back of the card being an MFC logo, with the front of the card (the one with all the diamonds and numbers and jacks and so forth) facing you in your hand. So I don't see how anyone could know what you're holding until you play it, much the same as in a normal deck of cards.

One of the problems with the less expensive membership options is that a heap of people who buy an 11 or 16-game membership now don't go to that many games - it's essentially a donation.

You need to balance any increases in revenue derived from new sign-ups for a limited membership versus lost revenue from people who downgrade.

I was wondering with the cards idea if you could try and turn this idea into a recognition of our sponsors. ie put their logos on the reverse side of the cards.

So on one side you have the player ... on the reverse side you have his sponsor!

Almost like a thank-you for being our partners we truly appreciate you. Look its a "small" token but its a start.

Suppose the question would be asked ... Would it increase the value of the player sponsorships ... with companies knowing their logos where being distributed amongst our 30,000+ membership base.

    Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season.
