Gary Lyon Coaching Journey Starts

Featured Replies

My guess

There's 6 clubs that can win the next 5 flags. - Geelong, St Kida, Coll., Carlton, Hawks and Dogs

There's 2 clubs whose coaches have gone fully to the well and possibly 3 if Freo have the cohones. -Melb, Freo and WCE

There's 7 clubs in limbo, Essendon is one of them and Knights and their board have taken there. - Dons, PA, Sydney, Tigers, Crows, North and Rich.

only 6 clubs.. ye of little faith..lol.....with the current crop and some top ups let alone whatwe may or may not get over the journey of 4-5 years to add to the list we..the Mighty Demonswill be seriously in the mix for a Cup.. we mightnt win one but we wil play off for one.

As we climb..others by the very nature wil fall. We are perfectly situated for a cohesive restructuring of our team.

You suggest that Bailey should have lost his job because we have won 2 spoons in a row even though this is exactly what he was employed to do.

So last year he was employed to win the spoon? I seriously doubt that, nobody picks coaches to win spoons.

............and tanking doesnt happen !! ;)

No, but the wooden spoon was a direct result of doing what he was brought in to do - fast-track youth development and assess / rebuild the list.

The wooden spoon was merely an unpleasant after-effect.

I really don't see what the problem people have with coming last - if we were 14th it is no better in my eyes.

I'm only interested in improvement and development at this stage and for the last 2 years - wins or losses are bordering on meaningless.

Lets for a moment say that as seems likely end up with 1 and 2 this year. Then as a result of bottoming out totally and completely for two years wewil have recieved

Likely picks for 1 & 2 are :

Scully, Trengove....(+ last years ) Watts, Blease + Jurrah

yeah..ya right.... not worth Spooning for all that lot is it !!

Oh yeah, I would much rather that we had have won 6 matches the last 2 seasons and spared ourselves the intense shame of being a bottomfeeder.

Bailey should be sacked. Moreover we should reinstate Yze, White, Godfrey and even Nathan Carroll.

Correct weight, except you've got Richmond in limbo twice - and they probably deserve to be.

Brisbane is the other limbo club but they're right on the fringe of the flag group and could go either way.

WC may actually be able to win a flag within the 5 years - they may need to because Glass and Cox are already 28.

The limbo clubs are paralysed by the GC and WS draft concessions.

Free agency could mess with this in a big way.

Richmond twice...Oops.

Yes Brisbane is the one. The Dogs do need a gun forward...but what will it cost them?

Bub I think we will win it in 2014. :)

I don't have a problem with where the club is at quite the opposite actually, but surely Melbourne must show a fair bit of improvement next year for Bailey to get another contact? We just can't keep on losing.

But sometimes coaches are picked to develop, re-structure/re-build and "teach".

Yes, ditto.

and you dont think thats exactly what will happen ? We're done with losing...its served it purposes, now Bailey will be desiging teams and carriculae to win.

Long range forecasts are pretty futile.

No-one saw a Hawthorn flag last year, but more to the point, many people - and I mean many - thought St.Kilda's window for a flag closed two years ago. You may have been one of them.

Fair enough, I'd agree with that.

Next season I would be happy with about 10th-12th spot considering we have already rebuilt and developed and players are heading into their prime rather than out of it.

Good time to be doing it too.

Maybe our 150th year held a blessing that no one could see at the time.

I'll put my hand up, I thought their window was closing. After last years finals series and Robert Harvey gone and the ruckmen in Gardiner & King, I thought they might plateau. I didn't see this 19-0 season happening, I thought anywhere between 5-8 and in the finals. I also didn't expect to see Gardiner in the form that he has reached.

Ross Lyon & Co. have done a great job. Kudos to them.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
