Mitch Thorp and Beau Dowler

Ssssshhhhhh...you're embarrassing yourself. Saying someone else knows nothing about football and then defending a trade that is SO FAR off the mark it's ridiculous really makes you look like a fool.

If Hawthorn are really going to trade Thorp (and it's not just another [censored] rumour, which it probably is) then they will be getting about 10 teams falling over themselves to get him and an offer of a straight swap of Green wouldn't get past the secretary.

if you actually followed football you would know that Thorp has performed really poorly at vfl level for the past 2 years and has consequently dropped down the pecking order of promising talents.

According to Channel 10 news tonight, there are now four clubs chasing Green, Pies, Swans, Saints and Hawks.

swans first round pick is what...around 12? that'd be alright- and if they lose o'keefe, the pick they get for him will be fairly high and they get green who is almost a replacement

Good luck getting Thorp. The Hawks rate him on par with Roughie.

Dowler could be worth a shot with his injuries but he got absolutely SMASHED by Mal Michael when I saw Box Hill play Bendigo earlier in the year (obviously one game doesn't mean much)

no way do they rate him on par with roughie.

Don't worry about my football knowledge....your lack of it is on display for all to see. If you had any clue you'd know about Thorp's injuries and understand how highly he is rated both by the Hawks and other clubs.

Anyway, it's pointless arguing with someone who clearly has no idea - let's see if he gets traded for Green or something equivalent and then compare your football knowledge to mine and everyone else's on that basis

another person that doesn't know anything about football. Hawthorn is in their premiership window now, so greens age is almost irrelevant as he could be the difference between winning a flag next 2 -3 years or losing them. same goes for O Keefe.

hawthorn won the flag this year without brad green ;)

And Ryan O'Keefe.

Hawthorn would laugh and laugh and laugh at that trade proposal.

Seriously - a talented young, agile KPP, who was one of the highly rated batch of the "super draft" of 2006 and was taken at Pick #6 ... and you'd think they'd trade him for a 28 year old ?

Take the blinkers off.

Welcome to Demonland, Dermie.

hawthorn won the flag this year without brad green ;)

but maybe not without Dew, a mature aged recruit

LOL

If you actually followed football you would know that KPP take longer to come on than midfielders.

If you had any clue, you would know that aside from Nathan Brown - NONE of the "top shelf" KPP from the Super Draft 2006 have come on.

He's been in the system only 2 years and you expect him to dominate at CHF/CHB in a struggling Box Hill side?

I'm sure Hawthorn should have traded Luke Hodge after his first 2 "stellar" years in the system.

I suppose you'd scrap Jack Watts for some random 28 year old if he doesn't come on within his first 2 years, right?

but maybe not without Dew, a mature aged recruit

I can't for the life of me work out why people are using Stuart Dew as a defence for Hawthorn acquring Green.

It's completely irrelevant.

As stated earlier Dew was a punt taken by Alistair Clarkson at Pick #45 in THE DRAFT.

He wasn't traded for a highly rated youngster.

Hyde,

It's Thorp's assumed value that's at question here. Green can safely be put in the pick 15-20 bracket. Thorp? I couldn't spot him out of a line-up. I assume you watch the Box Hill Hawks most weeks? Most of us here are just making assumptions about him. With only 1 game in 2 years as a sample, he could turn out to be Riewoldt or Molan. If he's going to be the sort of player Hawthorn think he is then I doubt he'd be traded at all. He is however biding his time in the VFL while opportunities exist elsewhere.

I don't watch the Box Hill Hawks each and every week - but I am a keen TAC/Junior follower.

While I can understand why people who havent had the exposure would see Thorp as a "dud" and then therefore would think he'd be available on the cheap - it is common practice to allow 3-4 years for KPP to come on.

His performances havent been all that bad in the VFL either - and dare I say it, if he was playing for any side other than Hawthorn he'd be playing regular senior football as a forward at AFL level (more to the point at CHF).

Because of Hawthorns embarresment of riches - they're grooming him as CHB, a position I havent seen him play since he was 17 years old.

While I think highly of him as a footballer - I personally don't rate him much as a bloke in general, and I beleive given some of the perceived ego on him - he would be the kind of person to move clubs for either more cash or to be allowed to play as a CHF.

But even in the event that he were to move clubs - an offer of Brad Green as a straight swap would not even come close to being sufficient when looking at it from a Hawthorn perspective.

In essence though, you are trading for potential.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, i think everyone who has dismissed Thorp as a dud need only think back to the beginning of this season and look at how Col Garland was perceived.

Now the masses are calling for Judy to be moved up forward cos we need him there more, a la Neita in his heyday.

Ok, slight overstatement.

everyone who has dismissed Thorp as a dud

Who's calling him a dud? We're talking about trading our best player for him.

some have. Can't be bothered going back through threads looking for it.

imo Thorp will end up being twice the player Green is. Naturally gifted forwards (particularly Centre-Half) are pretty hard to come by and he is certainly one of the more gifted going around

Honest question

What are the chances of us getting him and how?

I have herd he is a great potential of talent. Being that he hasnt really had ago at AFL level

Would have to give up 17 and a proven player to be in with a shot at Thorp.

Dowler would be a touch easier

Deal not looking likely now.

i wonder if hawthorn are going to develop into collingwood - want the world but pay peanuts. THey used a different strategy earlier with good effect.

Todays Australian suggested they have offered Taylor to us and want pick 19. I would struggle to give pick 49.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
